STEAM Teacher Job Description
The duties and responsibilities of the STEAM teacher involve instruction directly related to STEAM and computer science.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
Core Instructional Responsibilities
· Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
· Demonstrate the ability to create and implement strategies for weaving STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula from grades 5 through 8.
· Work in partnership with teachers and staff, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, STEAM, and online tools.
· Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the connection between technology, computer science, and other fields of study.
- Understand and be able to design, develop, assess, and manage STEAM learning experiences.
- Implements a rigorous curriculum aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
- Prepares lesson plans that differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with various learning styles; including SLAM-ified (sports-infused) lessons as defined by leadership.
- Maintains attendance and grade records as required by the school.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing and use the data to guide instruction.
- Creates SLAM-ified lessons to implement.
- Ensures that all 504 & IEPs are met to support the individual needs of the student.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies; daily activities; materials and manipulatives; and, equipment and technology that demonstrate an understanding of the various learning styles and needs of all students.
- Implements Response to Intervention (RTI) and Response to Behavior (RTB) plans and understands his/her role at all Tier levels.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students and maintain student discipline in the classroom.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Maintain open and regular communication by conducting conferences and data chats with parents, students, principals, and teachers to discuss academic, social, and behavioral progress.
Core Professional Responsibilities
· Identify and apply educational and technology-related research, the psychology of learning, and instructional design principles in guiding use of technology in education.
· Identify, implement, and investigate software in both classroom and administrative environments.
· The STEAM teacher will identify resources, plan, and design staff development activities to support professional growth in learning technologies.
· Participate in professional development experiences that allow him or her to observe, evaluate, and apply the use of technology to support instruction.
- Enforce and uphold the school's mission, vision, values, policies, and culture and model the school's values in all interactions with students, families, community members, and staff.
- Demonstrate content mastery.
- Work collaboratively with a team.
- Adhere to all child abuse reporting requirements/laws.
- Comply with the standards of conduct, ethics and/or conflicts of interest for teachers and/or employees of the School.
- Maintain records as required (i.e. data binders, call logs, etc.).
- Maintain current state licensure(s) and/or certification(s) as required by law.
- Keep informed of and comply with applicable federal, state and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend faculty and/or other required meetings.
- Participates in grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
- Perform supervisory duties as assigned by the principal (i.e. car line, breakfast supervision, etc.).
- Pursue and engage in opportunities for professional growth.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or above from a regionally accredited college or university or a PSC approved institution;
· Valid Georgia teaching certificate in elementary education or have reciprocity eligibility from another state or country.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Ability to comprehend and follow directives; and,
· Perform related work as required.
WORK HOURS:
· 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
