WeCareDMV Day Services, Inc. (WCDMV) formerly United Cerebral Palsy of Washington, DC & Northern Virginia is a non-profit organization that operates a day program for adults with developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia. DSPs to work up to 30 hours per week Monday - Friday.
The Direct support Professional will provide direct support services and implement functional programs for the individuals served by WCDMV. The Day Services Support Professional is responsible for completing the following duties in accordance with WCDMV’s policies and procedures in coordination with Medicaid and the Department on Disability Services (DDS) directives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement the training / progress related goals and objectives as outlined in Individual Service Plan. Ensure that individuals are actively engaged in appropriate activities.
- Ensure safety and welfare of individuals is maintained at all times. Consistently perform duties in strict adherence to WCDMV’s Policy and Procedure Manual, including but not limited to the Individual’s Rights Policies and Procedures, Abuse and Neglect of Individuals policy, Basic Assurance System policy, Behavior Support Procedures, Mealtime Policy, Medication Policy and Procedure, Emergency Care policy, Seizure Precaution policy, Emergency Contingency Plan and Fire and Evacuation policy. Initiate Incident Reports within the reporting deadlines established in WCDMV’s Incident Report policy.
- Provide and support individuals with personal care needs; i.e., bathroom, changing, feeding. Ensure meals are provided according to individuals’ mealtime protocol. Consistently perform duties in strict adherence to WCDMV’s Food Safety Protocol, Sanitation Policy, Bloodborne Pathogen Policy and the Exposure Control Plan.
- Complete focus area data book to ensure data is current and appropriately entered.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with interdisciplinary team members regarding the individuals’ overall progress, incident reports initiated, safety and/or sanitation problems noted and/or corrective action initiated or action needed.
- Prepare and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings/case conferences as requested or needed; i.e., intake, Individual Service Plan (ISP), Human Rights Committee, etc.
- Actively participate and support community inclusion activities including recreational, social, cultural and educational excursions.
- Conduct 30/60 day individual assessments, assessment summaries and reports in compliance with WCDMV’s policies.
- Assist QIDP/Case Manager with development of Individual Service Plans with goals and measurable objectives based on their needs, skills and interests.
- Attend staff briefings, in service trainings, etc. as requested or required in compliance with WCDMV’s Training Policy.
- Good driving record and ability to perform driving duties a plus.
- Ability to pass criminal background check through D.C. Department of Health.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education/Related Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. Minimum one (1) year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities – adult age level experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Consistent interpersonal skills – possess continuing willingness and ability to work well independently and in a team work environment with individuals, and staff at all levels of the organization, and with an ethnically diverse work environment and personnel.
- Good written and oral communication skills – ability to read, understand and write written instructions, reports, policies/procedures, etc. Bi-lingual language skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Excellent time management and problem solving skills – ability to effectively and efficiently utilize time, equipment and materials, a strong sense of job responsibility and self-motivation as well as consistent ability to effectively and early detect and resolve problem areas and situations.
- Good computer skills – user level knowledge of computer and software utilized for job duties and activities.
- Good understanding of human service governmental agency compliance requirements for providing services to individuals with disabilities, including OSHA, DDS and Medicare.
- Willing/able to accommodate work schedule changes, leave fill-in, hours before or after regular work schedule in support of WCDMV’s business need.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Willing/able to drive WCDMV’ vehicles, transport individuals as needed in support of WCDMV’s business need.
- Willing/able to consistently report for work as scheduled, on-time and ready/able to perform job responsibilities.
