Description:
JVS SoCal is seeking a Grant/Proposal Writer who is a passionate, mission-aligned, creative person who will research, plan, write, submit and manage corporate and foundation grant applications to local, state and national funders. They must also be a goal-oriented team player and enjoy working both independently and in a fast-paced team environment. They will bring creativity to blend with contract deliverables to explore opportunities for strategic growth and expansion.
- Leads all aspects of the grant process, including recommending funding opportunities to pursue and writing.
- Has a clear understanding of corporate and foundation funding processes and is successful in navigating funding websites and resources.
- May represent JVS SoCal in communication and meetings with funders.
- Develops grant budgets in partnership with the relevant personnel from the Grants Department, Finance team, and Program team.
- Assists with department projects as requested.
- Ensure the program team has the goals, outcomes and expectations of each award.
- Manages awarded grants using internal reporting systems, writes and submits funder reports on time, works with program teams to ensure each program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations, maintains excellent historical records.
- Tracks and manages prospective and declined grants and necessary follow-up.
- Ideal candidates bring experience or demonstrated competency in Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar donor database.
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of a BA/BS in Social Work, Education, Writing/Literature, Public Policy, Non-Profit Management or a related social service field or equivalent experience.
- Must have previous experience working with marginalized populations in programs designed to foster personal growth and success.
- Must have a minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in corporate and foundation grant research and writing in the employment, training, social services, and/or educational arenas; knowledge of philanthropic fundraising sources, research techniques and strategies for prospect research and fundraising; and have a track record of success in winning competitive proposals of at least $10,000.
- Has a high level of critical thinking, time management and organizational skills.
- Smoothly adapts in a fluid and fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to develop graphs and flow charts highlighting critical data is required.
