Sacramento Heart & Vascular Medical Associates is one of Northern California’s foremost specialty groups in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. We have an immediate opening for a full-time EKG Technican, seeking employment in a fast-paced environment to join our team of professionals.
Role and Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, the EKG Technician is responsible for setting up and maintaining EKG equipment, performing cardiovascular tests, identifying heart conditions, and ensuring patients are always comfortable and informed. The EKG Technician will need to attend to patient needs and require patience and a caring nature while following established policies and protocols.
- Prepares patient for EKG testing. Explains procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
- Performs standard EKG procedures for patients as ordered by physicians.
- Administers stress tests based on EKG criteria.
- Maintains, calibrates and adjusts the EKG apparatus in accordance with standard EKG procedures.
- Works with medical staff to evaluate test methods and coordinate patient scheduling.
- Obtains relevant information from patient clinical record, records treadmill information on patient charts.
- Observes patients during testing for any side effects.
- Maintains department records, reports and files as directed.
- Prepares preliminary report and reviews test results with the interpreting physician.
- Assists echocardiography technologist in performing stress echoes.
- Scans in Holter Monitor data; prepares data for physician interpretation.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency and perform EKG Technician specialty routinely.
- Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required
- BLS required
- Must have CCT (Certified Cardiac Technician) preferred, or CRAT (Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Applicants may be hired without certification but will be required to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
- Completion of medical terminology course preferred.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an outpatient environment.
- Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
- Work may be repetitious at times.
Physical requirements
Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires sitting for extensive periods of time with occasional standing and or walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 10 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
