Yusen Terminals LLC (“YTI”, based in Terminal Island (Los Angeles), CA, is wholly owned by Ocean Network Express (ONE), with office headquarters in Singapore.
YTI operates a state-of-the-art marine container terminal in the Port of Los Angeles. YTI was established in 1991 at the Port’s Berths 212-218. The services we provide are stevedoring and terminal operations for The Alliance (ONE, Hapag Lloyd, HMM and Yang Ming) as well as slot chartering from Evergreen, CMA-CGM, APL, COSCO and OOCL. As a full-service marine terminal, YTI provides modern technology, equipment, on-dock rail, storage facilities and Alternative Maritime Power (AMP®). Overview:
Reporting to the General Manager, Continuous Improvement, the Manager, Continuous Improvement will independently perform ongoing in-depth analyses of specific operational processes, equipment, existing infrastructure utilization, yard utilization, vessel schedules, etc. and presents actionable recommendations to the Operations Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team. The MCI will support strategic process improvements and waste reduction projects of varying size and complexity in any of the functional areas of the facility with the goal of building a sustainable culture of continuous improvement and productivity.
What you will do:

Establish close collaboration, cooperation and communication with operations teams and assume an ultimate coordinating role and responsibility for overall metric reporting and strategic analysis activities within the operations departments.

Forecast & control heavy equipment & chassis usage on the facility to ensure efficient operations.

Independently work between operations departments to ensure TOS is properly configured & the strategic plan is followed.

Perform post - mortem analyses to determine effectiveness of operational decisions & use Six Sigma (or similar) methodology to continuously improve facility performance.

Regularly review operational KPIs and assists the operations team in designing new or amended KPIs as needed based on business needs.

Develop working relationships throughout all departments, at all levels (both management and labor), to understand on-going business needs. Identify potential improvements in processes and then, in conjunction with other members of the management team, develop, vet, and coordinate the implementation of new procedures needed to support changes, efficiencies, etc. aimed at business optimization.

Responsible for establishing and implementing process documentation library, process documentation update and change control, and process documentation access management.

Anticipates and plans for process integration opportunities that support business objectives. Creates process changes by integrating new processes with existing ones and communicates these changes to all departments to ensure alignment.

Perform Ad-Hoc analyses for senior management to effectively communicate specific metrics relating to terminal operations.

Collaborate with Safety Department to identify, analyze and improve safety performance and eliminate potential hazards.
What you will bring:

Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or equivalent four-year degree is preferred

Minimum of 3 years’ experience with business operations or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process or project improvements and work independently

Demonstrated strong reporting and analysis capabilities

Knowledge of Terminal Operating Systems
