SAIA is Hiring a Regional Safety Manager!
Saia is searching for an Chicago based Regional Safety Manager. Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Regional Safety Manager provides leadership and expertise to the operations within an assigned region. This role collaborates closely operational leaders to serve and support execution of programs and plans that reinforce a strong safety culture. Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing safety exposures that represent unacceptable loss to the corporation resulting from personal injury, vehicle incidents, property damage and regulatory penalties. This position will serve as the primary contact for Safety related issues in the assigned region and will ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal Safety & Health and DOT laws, regulations, permits, as well as company mandated policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Tracks safety and compliance training for completion and proper documentation.
- Ensures consistency in the identification of accidents as preventable or non-preventable.
- Proactively leads injury prevention programs, creates, and assists in training. Works with facility management to eliminate workplace injuries.
- Oversees the formation and development of safety committees in the terminals, provides training information, and develops and leads programs.
- Assists in the implementation and maintenance of actions and strategies within a region to eliminate collisions and injuries.
- Provides technical expertise on regulatory issues and training/evaluating employees on safety procedures.
- Conducts facility audits and ensures that necessary corrections, repairs, and return inspections are completed within a region.
- Provides assistance and direction regarding the proper management and handling of accidents and hazardous material incidents in the region.
- Performs other duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation, risk management, etc.
- 3-5 years of safety experience.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, RCRA regulations.
- CDL license helpful.
- Experience with software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and follow up on actions needed.
- Approximately 50% travel is required.
