Position Summary
Provide quality instruction of aerobics and fitness classes in accordance with YMCA standards and guidelines. Encourage participants using energy and enthusiasm. Instruct, supervise, and reinforce proper strength training procedures; provide encouragement and monitor the fitness area to ensure a safe and clean environment.
The ideal candidate demonstrates maturity, and is friendly, outgoing, punctual, has a passion for fitness and wellness, and possess the ability to work independently.
Essential Duties

Provide enjoyable, high quality class instruction.

Appropriately demonstrate and instruct proper exercise in accordance with program standards.

Responsible for the health and safety of all individuals in the fitness area, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports.

Set up and break down equipment as necessary.

Find coverage for self in the event of an absence and then notify the Program Director of the change.

Responsible for attending staff meetings/events.

Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers and members of the YMCA.

Provide encouragement during class instruction while being an enthusiastic and positive representative of the YMCA.

Be a member service ambassador, remaining abreast of current programs and facility schedules, being prepared to provide personalized direction to other YMCA services.

Continually enhance professional development through additional certification trainings, work shops, educational courses and/or appropriate reading material.

Communicate with members, make them feel welcome and address then by name.
Qualifications
Requirements

Education and/or Experience
-
High School degree or GED preferred
-
1-3 years of health or member service related experience.
Reasoning Ability:
-
Ability to anticipate, identify and address members needs to ensure safety and enjoyment.

To accurately complete all required paperwork.
-
To professionally handle and or get help to resolve conflict.
-
Ability to follow instructions as given and/or directed by supervisor.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certifications / Training: (not all are required to apply)

Exercise Instructor Certification (within 6 months of hire)
