Senior level IT position responsible for management and systems support for multiple large-scale Linux computer systems, as well as security focused initiatives. As a member of the Systems Architecture & Administration department, install, maintain and modify operating-system-level software, and configure and install enterprise server equipment. Initiate and self-manage projects in collaboration with other systems administrators. Promote knowledge transfer and teamwork. Provide system tuning, troubleshooting, security, recovery from failure, capacity planning, business continuity, and other related services, while documenting procedures. Develop software required for UVM systems. Contribute to operational security projects including our vulnerability management system (Tenable), SIEM platform (Splunk), next-gen firewall (including IDPS) environment, and contribute to security policy enforcement using industry standards. Other responsibilities include support of UVM’s enterprise server and storage environment, including hundreds of servers, VMware vSphere, and petabytes of SAN storage.
This position provides significant automation of services through scripting and program development. Supervision is provided by the Infrastructure Team Lead within the Systems Architecture & Administration department. Given that any change to system-level software can potentially impact thousands of users including research, learning, and administrative functions, systematic attention to detail, careful planning, and sound judgment are critical.
