POSITION DESCRIPTION
A Commercial Construction Project Accountant has extensive experience in accounting and the ability to assist the project team in producing and maintaining accurate information in calculating, auditing, and overseeing all finances of a construction project. Responsibilities include regular review of project budgets, subcontractor and vendor contracts, purchase orders, change orders, and invoices, accurately updating and posting charges in accordance with contract agreements, and performing cost analyses to investigate billing issues and budget overages. The goal is to ensure that all potential and actual construction costs are accurately tracked and managed ensuring consistent billing and reliable financial reports, as well as forecasting future costs to ensure the company can complete the project within budget. All information is to be clearly documented and communicated to the team periodically throughout the project lifecycle. The Project Accountant’s performance is measured through project financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to contribute to the overall success of the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MANAGEMENT
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
- Demonstrate leadership and adaptability to unforeseen changes. Manage change orders, subcontract logs, electronically and physically.
- Identify, track, monitor, and communicate project-related issues; job costs, scope changes, cost contingencies, and roadblocks that may arise during the financial management of projects.
DATA ENTRY
- Performing regular data entry and accounting duties throughout Foundation Accounting software
- Analyzing all transactions and working unforeseen costs into the budget.
- Assist in processing and managing owner and subcontractor contracts and change orders.
- Reconcile all invoices from our subcontractors and vendors.
- Provide detailed budget management, forecasting, and reporting in preparation for monthly reviews.
- Provide detailed and accurate job costs/ documents required for billing on AIA Invoices.
REPORTING
- Facilitate monthly financial deep dive meetings to frequently direct communication on the financial status of multiple projects with management and the project team.
- Assist AP and AR with follow up and collecting of past due billings.
- Reporting any financial risks and budgetary discrepancies to management for review, keeping abreast with both the construction and accounting industry.
- Perform additional assignments per Project Manager’s and Finance Manager’s Requests
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- A minimum of 2-5 years' experience as a project accountant, or similar.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is advantageous.
- Experience working with Foundation accounting software.
- Familiarity with relevant accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, American Contractor, Spectrum, or ComputerEase.
- Excellent knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial procedures. Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and accounting reconciliations.
- Solid analytical and mathematical skills. Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
- Be articulate, communicative, and professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills when working with management, employees, customers, and vendors.
