JOB DESCRIPTION
Seeking a full time Technical Director & Assistant Technical Director for the Rochester Civic Theatre to provide implementation and supervision of the execution of all productions and technical rehearsals.
Organization Overview: The Rochester Civic Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit theatre celebrating its 73rd season as Rochester's longest-running community theatre. The Civic has been an integral source of arts and culture for Rochester and southeast Minnesota. Since its founding, the Rochester Civic Theatre (RCT) has evolved into an award-winning, multidisciplinary theater. In 2020, The Rochester Civic Theatre opened its doors to the non-profit performing arts community and is now home to a myriad of other performing arts organizations in Southeastern Minnesota. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in technical operations of theatre productions, including lighting, sound, rigging, and set construction; Attends production meetings, and technical rehearsals as needed; Assists in the distribution of projects during the work day; Verifies that all projects are built in accordance to drawings and proactively consults production designers in case of any questions or in making decisions regarding building/rebuilding set pieces; Maintain rules, regulations, and safety procedures and protocols; Assists in managing shop space and tools; Verifies that hardware carts, tools, lumber, and other general building materials are properly stored, and the shop areas stay clean; and assists and sometimes leads load-ins and strike.
Qualifications and Skills: Minimum 2-3 years experience in technical theater or related field is preferred; Experience in scenic painting and carpentry required; Knowledge of audio equipment (e.g., mixers, microphones, speakers) and the set up of a 10 piece pit orchestra for live theatre and 40+ microphones required; Theatrical lighting experience preferred; Welding preferred; Counterweight Rigging knowledge required; Ability to use Vectorworks is preferred. Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills are required; and must be able to lift 50 pounds and be comfortable with heights.
Dates and Locations: Works in Rochester, MN. Note: Eight productions throughout the year, typically theatre build and tech schedule. Hours vary weekly.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
