The Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting, financial reporting, audit, and tax operations of the company. This role will oversee monthly reporting to management, shareholders, and banks; supervise annual fiscal year-end close and financial audit; and submit regular tax filings (sales, use, income, & property). The Controller will be based in our NY office and report directly to the CFO.
Qualifications/Experience
· 8-10 years of finance and accounting experience, including 3-5 years leading the accounting function in a corporate environment
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent)
· CPA strongly preferred
· Relevant experience in Leisure, Hospitality, Restaurant Industry; preference for experience with multi-site developments/construction
· Experience supervising outsourced tax function (sales & use, income, property, amusement, etc.)
· Strong understanding of US GAAP including revenue recognition, project accounting, construction accounting, fixed assets, start-up costs (ASC 720-15), and lease accounting (ASC 842)
· Experience with reporting and accounting for multi-entity financial statements and consolidated reporting
· Relevant experience developing and maintaining internal control, policies, audits appropriate for the size and maturity of the business
· Prior history of successful accounting process improvements (e.g., faster, and more accurate monthly close)
· Experience working in SaaS-based ERP environment (Sage Intacct preferred) integrated with other software including Avalara, point of sale, data warehouse, etc.
· Experience with variety of AP contexts including (a) high volume/low value vendor bills and (b) low volume/high complexity vendor bills (AIA/Construction billing experience a plus)
· Experience supporting the financial reporting for sophisticated company managers, lenders and shareholders
Role/Responsibilities
· Responsible for key enterprise-wide accounting processes: order to cash, procure to pay, acquire to retire, record to report, tax compliance, and internal control
· Order to cash
o Conduct accurate and timely reporting of revenue recognition, deferrals, and sales reconciliations by P&L, SKU, payment method, and sales type
o Review and submit sales and use tax filings
· Procure to pay / Acquire to retire
o Oversee and manage Accounts Payable, Cost Accounting, Fixed Asset Accounting, Lease Accounting (ASC 842)
o Execute high volume / low value payment at scale with multiple payment methods (ACH, Check, Reverse ACH, Credit Card)
o Execute low volume / high complexity payment methods for fixed asset development (ACH, Joint Check, retainage, change orders)
o Supervise work in progress reporting for projects including capitalized payroll, materials, and contractor billings
o Manage the fixed asset process, including efficient and accurate capitalization of labor, fixed asset schedule maintenance, and depreciation entries for book and tax
o Cross-functional work with development team on project closeout processes, resolving liens, back payments, final payments, lien releases
· Record to report
o Prepare lease accounting entries for new and amended operating real estate leases (ASC 842)
o Ensure proper startup cost accounting (ASC 720-15 Start-Up Costs)
o Manage the monthly closing of the books, including maintaining a closing checklist, proper segregation of duties for preparation and review
o Prepare and review regular reporting packages which include financial reporting, MD&A, WIP, and capital expenditures

o Support third-party CPA firm on income and property tax filing
· Internal controls
o Coordinate annual and interim financial audits with outside accounting firm
o Develop and execute internal controls to facilitate compliance monitoring and risk management
Establish long term roadmap for SOX compliance
