Controller
Kahler Slater is seeking a Controller to join our Operational Services team and be a key participant in the success of Kahler Slater.
Our ideal Controller is passionate about people and joining a growing, dynamic architecture and design firm. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the Operational Services team, providing expertise, and proactively managing the firm’s financial position.

Responsibilities of the Controller:
Financial Oversight:
Develop annual budget, forecasts, and projections for firm
Prepare monthly financial packets and reports with analysis of variances and proactively communicate suggestions on improvements to meet annual goals/KPI’s
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and working procedures
Own and direct all financial audits/reviews and drive procedural improvements
Direct the activities of the general accounting/finance group, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, general ledger, fixed assets, joint ventures, and cash flow
Manage disbursement activities and monitor daily cash flow position including the line of credit ensuring compliance with all bank covenants
Oversee / prepare corporate income tax filings to ensure accuracy. Interprets tax law to minimize tax liability and provide recommendations to firm leadership
Keep abreast and advise impact regarding new laws, decisions, regulations, rulings in taxes and related areas
Establish and maintain Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)-compliant accounting, design and implement appropriate financial controls and procedures
Administer activities related to the company’s stock
Leadership:
Assist the CFO and Executive Leadership in all matters related to financing, credit, etc.
Supervise the financial team
Deliver training, leadership, and mentoring to the firm
Act as an integrated, collaborative member of the Operational Services team
Provide mergers and acquisition counsel when necessary
Knowledge Skills and Abilities of the Controller:
BS/BA in Finance, Accounting; CPA or MBA preferred with 8+ years of accounting and finance experience required; prior managerial and controller experience required
Knowledge of finance, accounting, cost control principles including GAAP required
Knowledge of federal and multiple state financial regulations required
Ability to explain complex procedures/practices to non-accounting staff
Prior experience in architectural, construction or engineer firms strongly preferred
Successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors
Proactively communicate with all levels of the organization
Must have strong computer skills and advanced Microsoft office skills
Experience with Deltek ERP preferred
Able to coach and be coachable
Working relationships and scope for the Controller:
Reports to CFO/COO
Collaborate with HR Manager and Operational Service team members
Represents the firm in alignment with Kahler Slater’s core values
