The Underwriting Assistant supports the underwriting team with data entry, processing submissions, customer service, and assigned projects. In addition, the Underwriting Assistant will provide administrative support to the Underwriting team, maintain files, and ensure records comply with the company’s compliance policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Data Entry. Accurately input and maintain policy information into our underwriting system. Verify policy information against established guidelines and underwriting criteria to ensure compliance. Access external databases to extract required information. Work as a liaison between Underwriting and IT to validate data from external parties. Review related documentation such as claims and any other insurance documents that are submitted to the underwriter during policy administration.
File management. Maintain underwriting files in the appropriate location. Retrieve documents as needed for underwriters, claims personnel, auditors, or others.
Document review. Assist underwriters by reviewing insurance applications/submissions, and policy documentation for completeness, accuracy, and in compliance with underwriting guidelines. Identify any discrepancies or missing information and report them to the proper individuals. Drafts ESL Insurance Applications and Binding Paperwork. Issue policies and endorsements as directed by the underwriters. Ensure that all documents are accurate and compliant with applicable statutes and regulations.
Correspondence. Prepare routine correspondence, such as policy confirmations, renewals, notices, non-renewal notices, and endorsement letters. Maintain professionalism and adhere to company communication guidelines.
Administrative Support. Support the Underwriting team by supplying general administrative support as needed. Responsible for working on renewals, collecting data from TPAs, Brokers, and policyholders. Create premium remittance forms for self-administered groups.
Loss runs and other applicable reports. Act as liaison between Underwriting and other departments. Work with Product & Services team on regulatory mailings and represent Underwriting in assigned operational meetings. Fulfill all regulatory requests and data calls and remit the information to tax/legal/product & state reporting.
Compliance and quality assurance. Assist in keeping accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring compliance with company policies. Guaranteeing that all insurance policies, applications, and endorsements are compliant with applicable statutes and regulations.
Education, Experience, Competencies & Values
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some higher-level education is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Ability to learn new software applications as required – ESL Office, Salesforce and Docusign.
Ability to work well in teams and comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to write professional correspondence.
Attention to detail and analytical skills are a must.
Must be able to pay close attention to detail and possess exceptional time management and organizational skills.
The base salary range for this role is $56,400 - $66,300. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
