Position: Veterinary Technicians | Surgery and Medicine
Available Schedules: Day Shifts | Night Shifts | Swing Shifts
Plus weekends as needed. Hours are variable. Overtime as directed.
Pay: Commensurate with experience
Education/Experience: Registered Veterinary Technicians or equivalent based on education or related experience with minimum of one year of hands-on equine experience.
Job Description: Assist veterinarian(s) as they provide preventive care, diagnose injuries and illnesses, and perform medical procedures on patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Assist veterinarians with appointments by:
- Preparing treatment areas for examination of horses
- Proactively collecting, organizing, and setting up equipment, supplies and drugs
required for daily appointments
- Holding, restraining, and jogging horses
- Assisting with and/or performing diagnostic imaging and treatments
- Assisting with unloading and loading of horses on trailers as necessary
- Conducting follow up calls to clients, as requested by veterinarians
- Serving as the communication liaison from clients to veterinarians, and recording
conversations accordingly in records/HVMS
- Proactively anticipating and completing tasks to make the day more efficient and
operate more effectively as a team
- Driving to and/or from appointments
- Assist with patient care by:
- Administering intravenous and/or intramuscular injections
- Performing venipunctures
- Applying wound dressings
- Conducting catheterizations
- Taking and recording vital signs
- Preparing patients, medications, and equipment for treatment or surgery (if
applicable)
- Assisting veterinarians during surgical procedures (if applicable), including
conducting post-surgical and/or post treatment cleaning procedures
- Collecting blood samples
- Performing routine laboratory tests, documenting results and communicating to
veterinarians
- Submitting and/or analyzing lab samples including intrauterine infusion
inseminating/reproductive procedures, and cultures
- Responsible for post-surgical or post-treatment cleaning procedures
- Help to maintain the cleanliness of the facility (i.e., washing floors, sweeping,
cleaning, disinfecting surfaces, cleaning treatment and surgery areas, etc.
- Organize equipment, supplies, and drugs required for daily appointments, including
restocking the veterinarian vehicles and treatment room
- Maintain all written compliance logs with complete documentation
- While traveling with a veterinarian, responsible for recording information in
compliance logs, performing call backs, complete documentation, and client
follow-up
- Assist with the overall maintenance of the clinic and facility, including bathrooms and lab area
