POSITION TITLE: Community Engagement Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Volunteer Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Hourly (30 – 35 hours a week) Hours may vary between seasons.
HOURS: Normal Schedule: Tues. through Sat. 8am to 4:30 pm with some variability
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Volunteer Services, the Volunteer Engagement Specialist will work in various settings, engaging volunteers to accomplish the Mission of Habitat for Humanity. This primarily consists of working at various sites with volunteers engaged in home building, rehabilitation, and repairs, salvage/demo work, ReStore retail and warehouse operations, and administrative support. Responsible for engaging with volunteers to ensure productive and positive experiences. Affirm the Mission and demonstrate the Values of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County, Inc.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Construction & Rehab Sites
· Assess site conditions and select appropriate locations for hospitality functions.
· Responsible for set-up and oversight of work site hospitality functions
· Greet and check-in volunteers at assigned sites.
· Secure required waiver and volunteer sign-in documentation
· Assist with on-site volunteer activities to facilitate relationship development.
· Support the construction process by providing guidance on supplies, tools, on-site construction materials, safety equipment, and assigned activities.
· Provide volunteer site safety guidance, Habitat mission overview, and prayer as needed.
· Coordinate the Beyond the Curb neighborhood beautification program.
ReStore
· Coordinate with ReStore Leadership to understand the store's objective.
· Evaluate potential community partnerships and reach out to determine interest.
· Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers for ReStore events.
· Create and implement an event plan for the ReStore to expand community donations.
· Deliver marketing to area neighborhoods, beyond the reach of local partner (church or business)
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Attend staff meetings as necessary
· Represent Habitat affiliate at community events
· Attain and maintain Competent Safety Person and CPR Certifications
· Provide volunteer Site Safety instructions and opening prayer as needed
· Affirm the Mission and demonstrate the values of Habitat for Humanity
Work Environment:
This position will include outdoor construction worksites around the county, with some time spent in an office setting. Most workweeks will consist of Tuesday through Saturday hours with occasional special events, projects, and holidays necessitating schedule flexibility.
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
- 2 years' experience in the field of volunteer engagement
- Experience or knowledge of the construction or building trades industry is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to facilitate positive interactions with wide range of volunteers and partner families
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
- Working knowledge of Microsoft, Google, and CRM software
- Ability to take direction from and work easily with staff across organizational functions
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with community partners and volunteers
- Ability to adapt to scheduling variations associated with construction projects
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB
- Ability to operate power tools
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds individually or 100 pounds as a team lift regularly
- Personal Vehicle to use
- Valid Driver's License
- Proof of Current Personal Vehicle Insurance

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
