Job Summary: Working with adult only patients in a pre-operative setting to assess, obtain vital signs, and administer as needed POC testing for determining the patient’s surgical candidacy for interventional spine and orthopedic surgeries.
Position Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- RN/LPN with an active license in Georgia.
- Must hold BCLS Certification ACLS preferred
- Ability to work independently with detail and accuracy.
- Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Leads team and ensures smooth transition pre/intra procedures.
- Maintains patient documentation.
- Pre-operative patient education/teaching.
- Pre/Post-Procedure Phone Calls.
Preoperative Nurse Position Duties:
- Thorough assessment skills and documentation.
- Performing venipuncture blood draws and IV catheter placement.
- Effectively organizes time, equipment, and supplies.
- Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care.
- Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of care.
- Assists in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in preoperative areas.
- Maintains order and cleanliness in preoperative areas.
- Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting.
- Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient during the admission process.
- Provides preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities.
- Describes the peri-operative experience to the patient, including what to expect before and after the procedure.
- Performs preoperative testing (i.e., blood pressure, glucose, and pregnancy testing) and reports abnormal values to the physician.
- Obtains necessary signatures.
- Discusses all relevant findings with the physician prior to the physician’s preoperative assessment of the patient.
- Documents preoperative care according to policy/procedure.
- Interacts professionally with physicians, patients, families, and others.
- Help patients with their needs and concerns.
- Ensure the patient’s safety and comfort during and immediately after the procedure.
- Respect the confidentiality of patient, center, and physician-related information.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and use complete discretion when discussing patient information.
- Perform all other assigned job duties by nurse, administrator, or providers.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with co-workers for the patient’s benefit.
- Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity; self-motivated. Organization and management of staff members’ activities reflect due consideration for the needs of the facility and staff.
- Completes other duties, as assigned.
