Summary
The Bell/Valet Attendant is the first point of contact for the guest upon their arrival at the hotel and the last point of contact upon their departure. This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service by greeting each guest, assisting them with their luggage and parking their vehicles, escorting guests up to their rooms and providing room and hotel information; and, servicing and anticipating their needs, with the Aloha spirit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Always greets guests in a friendly and professional manner according to hotel standards
- Engages each guest as a unique individual and listen attentively to their requests
- Promptly parks and retrieves guest vehicles in a safe and professional manner
- Assists guests with unloading/loading their luggage
- Transfers guest luggage from the point of arrival at the hotel, to their assigned room – and providing this service to guests who experience room changes during their stay; and, upon their departure from the hotel
- Accurately tagging, storing and retrieving luggage from the hotel room (if luggage is stored)
- Provide accurate information to guests while explaining hotel facilities and features, as well the safety features of their assigned rooms
- Professionally deliver information regarding the guest room features including: air conditioning units and thermostat controls; telephone and voicemail services; in-room entertainment (television); clock/radio; guest service directory; lights; bathroom amenities; valet/laundry services; ice and vending areas; concierge and hotel services; and, emergency procedures
- Remain up-to-date about the scheduled functions throughout the hotel/have general knowledge of:
- All hotel features/services and hours of operation;
- All room types, numbers, layout, décor, appointments and location;
- All room rates, special packages and promotions;
- Daily house count and expected arrivals/departures;
- Room availability status for any given day; and,
- Schedule daily group activities.
- Staying up-to-date regarding local attractions, activities, special events, city attractions and other guests’ amenities and assisting guests with concierge related services by providing them with correct activity/attraction information/directions
- Provide guests with accurate information regarding transportation alternatives in the local area.
- Maintain an accurate log of guests’ requests for Bell/Valet Attendant assistance
- Answers the bell stand telephone promptly and professionally – within three (3) rings – while using the correct greeting and proper telephone etiquette
- Satisfies all guest requests for information and services; handles guest complaints accordingly
- Retrieves guest laundry/dry cleaning from their rooms and delivers it to the appropriate location
- Promptly delivers items to guest rooms including: messages, mail, packages, flowers, sundry items (upon request) and gift items
- Assists guest with beach amenities such as: Beach chairs, tennis racquets and bicycles
- Monitor and maintain the appearance of the lobby, parking areas and luggage holding room; and, polish/clean brass luggage carts, as needed
- Operate a two-way radio and respond in a timely manner
- Reports accidents that occur during shifts in a timely manner
- Attends departmental meetings as scheduled
- Reports to work on time/as scheduled and in uniform (name tag included) according to the hotel’s standards of appearance
- All other miscellaneous responsibilities as assigned and deemed appropriate by management
Secondary Job Functions:
- Place rollaway beds and/or other requested equipment in guest rooms
- Deliver extra towels, bathrobes and other items to guest rooms
- Legibly document maintenance needs on the Second Effort log and submit it to Manager
- Remove room service bags/trays, trash and other items from guest hallways
Qualifications:

- Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract, required
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in English (speak, read, write) with guests, co-workers, and management:
- Ability to read English to a degree sufficient to deduce information from luggage tags and claim checks and able to legibly write numbers and names on claim checks and room lists
- Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness, and work with minimal supervision
- Experience with travel industry reservations systems and hotel property management systems, preferred
- Punctuality and regular/reliable attendance
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work well with co-workers and the public; and can patiently, tactfully, and professionally diffuse difficult situations with guests, and internal/external customers
- Ability to work well under the pressure of multiple check-in/outs and handle multiple tasks at once
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written modes of communication
- Ability to read, write, listen to/hear and comprehend simple instruction/direction
- Has clerical experience and basic math skills
Desired Skills/Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent vocational training
- Previous guest relations training
- Japanese language skills a plus

While performing duties of this job, the Bell/Valet is regularly required to stand for long periods, use manual dexterity, push/pull, touch, climb, hear/listen, have clear speech, move distances, bend/stretch, and drive. The Bell/Valet must regularly lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. The Bell/Valet may occasionally lift, carry and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance.

The Bell/Valet may be subject to shift work, working alone or with others, and have constant verbal and in-person contact with hotel staff and guests. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed office/mechanical equipment, moving objects and indoor and outdoor work conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

- The Bell/Valet must be flexible for scheduling; and available on nights, weekends, and holidays (as necessary).
