Overview: We are currently seeking a skilled Press/Bindery Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining bindery machinery, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality printed materials. This position requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to perform minor preventative maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation: Operate a variety of bindery machinery, including presses, cutters, folders, stitchers, and collators, according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain optimal efficiency and productivity.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform daily minor preventative maintenance duties on bindery machinery to ensure smooth operation and prevent breakdowns. Lubricate moving parts, clean equipment, and perform routine inspections to identify and address any issues or potential problems.
- Start Up and Shut Down: Follow SOPs for starting up and shutting down bindery equipment at the beginning and end of each shift. Perform equipment checks, verify settings, and ensure that all safety protocols are followed during startup and shutdown procedures.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Monitor output for defects, errors, or inconsistencies, and report any issues or concerns to the Process Improvement Manager for resolution.
- Training: Provide training and guidance to new operators on basic machine operations, safety procedures, and quality control measures. Share best practices and tips for maximizing machine efficiency and productivity.
- Production Scheduling: Follow production schedules and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and production targets. Coordinate with supervisors and team members to ensure timely completion of orders and projects.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including machine settings, production counts, downtime, and quality control checks. Complete production logs, work orders, and other documentation as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in printing or bindery operations preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating bindery machinery in a printing or manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery.
- Familiarity with standard bindery equipment and procedures, including setup, operation, and maintenance.
- Strong attention to detail and quality assurance skills, with the ability to identify and correct production issues.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and collaborate with team members to achieve common goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
