The Plant Health Care (PHC) Tech II is a mid-level position responsible for the advanced care and maintenance of plants, trees, and landscapes. This role involves diagnosing and treating complex plant health issues, implementing integrated pest management (IPM) strategies, and ensuring the safe and effective application of treatments. The PHC Tech II will also provide training and guidance to entry-level technicians, maintain accurate records, and deliver exceptional customer service. This position requires a commercially licensed applicator.
Responsibilities
- Advanced Plant Health Management: Identify and diagnose complex plant health issues such as diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies. Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans to maintain and enhance plant health and vitality.
- Pest and Disease Control: Apply pesticides and other control measures safely and effectively, following all regulatory guidelines. Use advanced IPM strategies to manage and prevent pest and disease outbreaks.
- Training and Supervision: Provide training and guidance to entry-level technicians on plant health care practices and safety protocols. Supervise and support the work of entry-level technicians to ensure quality and compliance.
- Customer Service and Communication: Communicate with clients to understand their plant health care needs and provide expert recommendations. Prepare and present detailed plant health care reports and treatment plans to clients.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding plant health care and pesticide use. Maintain accurate records of treatments, applications, and observations.
- Use and Maintenance of Equipment: Utilize and maintain advanced tools and equipment necessary for plant health care tasks. Ensure equipment is properly calibrated, clean, and stored correctly.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Degree in horticulture, arboriculture, or a related field
- Over 2 years of plant health care application experience
- Valid driver’s license
- State Department of Agriculture Certification required to apply commercial pesticides to trees and ornamentals
- ISA Certified Arborist
