The Safety and Wellness Officer, under minimal supervision, oversees the organization’s safety programs, team member wellness programs and initiatives, and personnel-related risk management activities. The Safety and Wellness Officer develops and implements safety programs that are meant to prevent injuries, fires, or other workplace accidents, schedules and oversees workplace inspections that identify and address potential safety hazards, and develops, delivers, and tracks participation in safety training programs educating employees on safe working practices, appropriate equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
The Safety and Wellness Officer investigates incidents, gathers and analyzes statistics, oversees incident reviews for workplace incidents and makes recommendations for improvements. The Safety and Wellness Officer prepares and submits accident reports in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The incumbent ensures compliance with appropriate organizational and external regulations and assists with negotiations regarding property and casualty insurance renewals. Implements and maintains the organization's risk management information systems and monitors, evaluates, and documents the progress and performance of the risk management programs and initiatives. The Safety and Wellness Officer assists in the timely submission and efficient management of accurate claims. The Safety and Wellness Officer oversees the Respiratory Protection Program and Emergency Plan, as well as the OSHA 300 log, and conducts risk management analysis to provide recommendations to upper management regarding risk aversion strategies. staff, ensuring objectives are met.
The Safety and Wellness Officer manages organizational wellness programs intended to improve employee health and well-being, develops and implements programs meant to encourage healthy lifestyles for team members and families and is the organizational contact for all occupational health programs and initiatives. The Safety and Wellness Officer surveys employees to gauge interest in programs, assesses usage of existing programs, and interacts with benefit providers or other external vendors to make programs available to team members.
Education/Experience:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Preferred:
- Experience with EMS or healthcare personnel, processes and rules and regulations, with safety-oriented program experience preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification preferred
Required:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred courses of study are business related, including human resources, occupational or environmental health. (Additional experience in the areas listed above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required education. Education in one of the fields listed above beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
- Valid, unrestricted Colorado driver’s license, with proof of good driving record.
- Knowledge of general safety program elements.
- Minimum 3 years of safety-related program management and/or other relevant experience.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of general safety policies, procedures and practices, with EMS industry knowledge preferred. Knowledge of policy and educational curriculum development, interpretation of rules and regulation and general knowledge of incident investigation. Knowledge of occupational health processes and systems. Incumbent should have knowledge of hazard identification and mitigation processes and general process improvement knowledge.

- Annual pay range - $80,400-$120,000 (consideration given to external experience, education, and qualifications when determining starting rate)
