About the Position:
Hope Creek Academy is seeking an exceptional individual to be part of our team as a Middle School Co-Teacher (3rd- 7th grade). Located in Durham, North Carolina Hope Creek Academy is a nonprofit private elementary and secondary school geared to children who need structure, consistency, positive reinforcement, increased movement, reduced stress, both remediation and challenge along with a multi-sensory way of learning. Hope Creek Academy serves approximately 60 students from across the county and beyond.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- Previous experience working with children in an academic setting (preferred)
- Previous experience working with children with special needs (preferred)
Skills:
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of classroom lessons
- Highly organized and attentive to detail
- Ability to multi-task giving priority to the most important duties
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to interact professionally and positively with staff, students, parents, and community members
- Ability to collaborate with co-teacher to develop comprehensive lessons that support students’ academic and social/emotional success
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish, nurture, and protect Hope Creek Academy culture, which is driven by structure, consistency, positive reinforcement, increased movement, reduced stress, both remediation and challenge along with a multi-sensory way of learning.
- Stay current with educational trends and state standards to best teach to mastery.
- Drive student social/emotional growth and academic mastery in a structured and safe environment.
- Demonstrate outstanding instructional and classroom management skills.
- Communicate with Administration in a manner that ensures students’ and staff needs are met.
- Support students’ independent learning styles and differentiate instruction for each student (as needed).
- Provide consistent, immediate feedback to student learning and ask questions that elicit students’ responses that incorporate prior knowledge, life experience and interests directly related to the content objective and lead students toward higher-level thinking.
- Maintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with Hope Creek Academy, state, and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Supervise students in out-of-class settings (e.g., assemblies, schoolyard, common areas, library, and bathroom (if necessary).
- Monitor and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports engagement and respect.
- Demonstrate technology/instructional media competency in order to enhance learning.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, staff, and community members by communicating in a courteous and, when appropriate, confidential manner.
- Work with parents and guardians to promote positive behavioral support and a respectful- yet nurturing learning environment for their students.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school-related activities and teams as requested.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Refrain from discriminatory practices based on race, origin, gender, socioeconomic status, disability, religion, or political beliefs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Co-teach a math class.
- Teach an elective course.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
