Purpose:
Under the direction of the Dean of Operations, the Licensed School Social Worker provides direct and indirect social work services to students experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their performance in school, and facilitates communication among school, home and community providers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally appropriate school-based counseling/social work prevention and intervention services to scholars and their families
- Deal with crisis situations in a manner that is consistent with the school’s crisis plan and procedures
- Be an active member of the school’s Wellness Team
- Coordinates community resources for scholars and families to address academic, behavioral, emotional, mental health and social needs
- Consults with instructors and parents to design IEP goals and services to support the learning environment for increased educational benefit
- Crisis Management: work with young people to stabilize crisis situations. Use of appropriate therapy and resources are promoted, as well as using the network of county workers to ensure consistent approach.
- Career & College Plan: work with young people to support career pathways and set specific goals and plans to achieve professions with family sustaining wages.
- Culturally Responsive Practice: All interactions with young people and their support networks are culturally competent. Social Workers regularly reflect on their bias and assumptions in order to better meet the needs of young people.
- Trauma Informed Approach to Practice: Approach utilizing compassionate accountability as a primary tool for service delivery.
