Excellent opportunity for a Molding Engineer to join our team at our manufacturing facility in Wheeling, IL, just a short drive from Chicago!
Position Overview
This position will be responsible to provide support to all injection molding operations, reduce scrap and set-up times, optimize cycle times, and perform validations related to materials, presses and molds as necessary with a sharp focus on continuous improvement.
What you will do:
- Lead all engineering activities related to Argon’s injection molding process.
- Establish a robust process window for all injection molded components using Scientific Molding techniques along with Design for Experiments (DOE’s).
- Troubleshoot molding / manufacturing processes to mitigate production defects.
- Champion process improvement/optimization projects.
- Identify and execute opportunities for cost savings.
- Perform process and mold qualifications, validations etc.
- Evaluate and select various engineered materials, execute material consolidation projects.
- Implement safety, productivity, and yield improvements.
- Develop and maintain process documentation.
- Participate in projects related to New Product Introduction.
- Develop process for SMED, design, execute and train set-up operators.
- Use structured project management process to execute projects on time.
- Lead complex projects and maintain project timeline and budget.
- Liaison between Molding, Tooling, R&D and Quality Engineering teams.
- Travel up to 5%.
Skills for Success:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Bachelor's in Chemical or Plastics Engineering preferred.
- At least 4 years of injection molding experience in the medical device industry or a clean room required.
- Must have excellent knowledge of injection molding presses (hydraulic and electric), molds, mold design and other related processing equipment such as hoppers/loaders, blenders, dryers, sprue pickers, hot runner systems etc.
- Must have experience working with common molding grade plastics such as Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, ABS, Nylon etc.
- Must have the ability to communicate with as well as train and develop process technicians.
- Knowledge of general mold maintenance and repairs.
- Experience in validation of presses and molds (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Experience in Extrusion of PVC, HDPE and PU is a big plus.
- Ability to apply analytical skills and scientific techniques in problem solving and development.
