The Utility Line Locator performs specialized field work utilizing electronic/GPS technology and mapping documents to locate and mark utility line locations assisting field crews and contractors to avoid damage to utility lines and disruption of services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Receives notification of request(s) for location/"Blue Staking" services; determines fieldwork schedule and assures timely completion of field locations, coordinates with dispatch personnel as needed.

Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties required to carefully conduct a complete and thorough analysis of each locating request for finding underground lines; identifies the presence of underground facilities, including type and size of underground utilities, using special electronic equipment and by reading and interpreting utility maps.

Accurately posts, paints and/or places locating markers to mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits; assures public and service crews know where the underground structures or conduits are buried.
- Communicates with excavators, other utility representatives, and Company personnel regarding underground facilities.

Performs light excavation with a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary.

Provides accurate documentation and/or sketches related to all locates completed.

Receives, responds to, and closes out excavation notices both during normal business hours and after hours as needed in accordance with company policy.

Assists with customer service and customer account collection efforts and provides assistance to the metering department when needed.

Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school plus six months of experience with GPS technology and utility line location.
