Primary Duties and Responsibilities
This position performs design work of a straightforward and standardized nature and identifies project specific customer needs and expectations for electric utility improvements. Responsible for the preparation of new improvement designs, work orders and cost estimates for new business construction. May provide training, development and mentoring to the Utility Designer I. This position may be a point of contact for external customers, developers, contractors, engineering firms, local agencies, utilities and governmental entities. Designs and/or coordinates entry-level to very complex, electric utility improvements. Focuses on the identification of customer needs regarding project specific electric utility design requirements, standards and policies. Establishes project specific business relationships. Also expected to understand and be capable of performing all duties of a Utility Designer I. Focuses on ensuring service commitments are delivered. Demonstrated proficiency in AUTOCAD is required. This position may perform independently or under the general direction of or collaboration with a Senior Designer, or a Utility Coordinator I/II, or a Senior Project Coordinator. Required to operate a vehicle for the Company. Responsible for design quality assurance and ensuring a quality product for internal and external customers. Performs other related work for which the employee is capable and qualified to safely perform as assigned.
Experience & General Requirements
- Three to five years of experience drafting/designing electric utility distribution systems in a consulting or utility environment using AutoCAD, AUD or MicroStation. Including plan view utility design sketches, plan and profiles, right of ways and identifying civil utility conflicts.
- Demonstrated ability to draft using various line types, layers, and blocks in a CAD tool.
- Demonstrated familiarity and knowledge of one-line or circuit drawings.
- One to five years of experience using a distribution design software such as Design Manager (DM), SAP, DPSS, FFE, Maximo, O-calc, SPIDACalc or PLS-CADD/PLS-Pole or similar.
- Applicant must have a valid U.S. Driver License.

Desired Education, Abilities and Skills
- Degree or Certificate in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as required.
