Position Summary:
To provide all aspects of medical physics support required for routine clinical operation in the Cape Fear Valley Health System (CFVHS) Radiation Oncology Departments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
3-5 years experience in Radiation Oncology setting as Medical Physicist. ABR certification preferred. 3-D, IMRT treatment planning experience needed. Background in radiation safety necessary. Any relative clinical experience that would promote use with the following types of equipment: CyberKnife, 1 Varian 21ix with OBI, ConeBeam-dual 6/15 MV with electrons, 1 Varian Trilogy with OBI, ConeBeam-dual 6/15 MV with electrons, 1 Siemen’s Primus Linear Accelerators, 6 MV with electrons, Philips Pinnacle Treatment Planning System, Philips 4D 16 slice CT/Simulator, GammaMed HDR unit, Elekta’s MOSAIQ, Varian 21ix dual photon, electron with OBI and ConeBeam. Thorough knowledge of Radiation Physics and treatment planning required. Thorough knowledge of all State and Federal rules and regulations regarding the receipt, storage, use and disposal of radioactive material. Verbal ability to communicate with physicians and staff. Demonstrates understanding of age specific developmental model and responds to patients needs accordingly. Demonstrates understanding of policies relating to Corporate Compliance issues and responsibility to report cases of fraud and/or abuse. Ability to work under stressful situations.

Works with radioactive material and equipment that produces radiation and high voltage. Visual acuity required when working with radioactive materials, high voltage equipment or treatment planning computer. Visual acuity also needed to read results of test equipment, linear accelerator and simulator repairs and maintenance. Verbal ability required to communicate with all Radiation Oncology staff, patients, and others as needed. Good audio perception required to hear verbal orders, and to hear any possible audio faults on the equipment. Must be able to work with primarily adult cancer patients, HIV patients, the terminally ill patient, and possible contact with infectious blood or body fluids.
