Controller – Commercial Real Estate
Rapidly growing Real Estate Developer is seeking a Controller to oversee all financial aspects of a commercial real estate portfolio, including lease management, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Cash Management:
- Responsible for overseeing the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements monthly, quarterly and annually.
- Provide variance analysis and explanations for financial performance.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity needs for the real estate portfolio and development pipeline.
- Coordinate with teams to ensure timely payment of expenses and collection of receivables.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identifying areas for improvement or corrective action.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, such as investment analysis, return on investment (ROI), and portfolio optimization.
Lease Administration:
- Oversee lease administration functions, including lease abstraction, database management, and compliance.
- Interpret lease terms and conditions to ensure accurate billing, rent escalations, and compliance with lease agreements.
- Responsible for CAM Reconciliations and other tenant charges above base rent.
- Manage lease renewals, amendments, and terminations.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with lease agreements, loan covenants, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy of financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with loan documents regarding financial reporting.
- Oversee tax planning strategies, coordinate with external tax advisors, and prepare or review tax filings, including property taxes, income taxes, and sales taxes.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 7+ years of commercial real estate accounting experience
- CPA preferred but not required
- Proficiency in Rent Manager is a plus
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
