YOUR ROLE IN THE FAMILY:
- The OHS Specialist works with the EHS Manager and advises site leadership in the implementation-of and compliance-with all company programs, expectations, and applicable federal and state laws
- Coordinates focus of site leadership to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout operations
- Participates in the planning phase of new tasks, processes, or projects to ensure that relevant safety hazards are accounted for
- Focuses always on incident prevention, risk removal or reduction
- Help site implement behavior-based safety principles and manage that program on an ongoing basis
- Schedules internal inspections with managers/supervisors and participates in inspections when needed
- Manages the site’s Employee EHS Committee and Emergency Response Team programs
- Assists managers and site leaders in areas and behavior inspections to identify, facilitate and correct behaviors and conditions that result in hazards
- Participates in the creation of job hazard analyses, tasks submittals and safety specifications and verifies that all safety precautions have been included in the change management process
- Acts as liaison with outside organizations such as clinics, fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure correct site information and assistance to support site operations and projects
- Coordinate and facilitates (as needed) any safety-related trainings to educate workers about safety, emergency procedures, policies/programs, laws, and practices
- Assist the other departments in ensuring that chemicals ordered and used by those departments have gone through the chemical approval process
- Participate in other departments’ committees and ensure that EHS values are being represented and prioritized
- Prepare safety and environmental related data, statistics, and presentations as needed
- Communicates safety-related information to Operations teams at daily shift meetings and site stand downs
- Conducts and communicates incident investigation findings to minimize reoccurrence, assures the preparation of accident reports, and verifies the effectiveness of corrective actions
- Encourages and promotes the value of early incident or injury reporting
- Encourage the submittal of near-misses, lessons learned, hazard reports, or best practices and promotes the recognition of those helping with that effort
- Participate in inspecting and confirming that all emergency and safety equipment is in good condition and appropriate for use
- Other duties as assigned
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR TO JOIN OUR FAMILY?
- A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering; or Public Health field
- Five years of professional experience in a comprehensive environmental health and safety program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
- Previous job experience in general industry health& safety role(manufacturing, food and beverage experience is a plus)
- Knowledge and experience with ensuring company operations are compliant with federal, state, and county regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health. (Industrial hygiene, chemical handling, ergonomics, and Emergency management, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space)
- Experience implementing and/or managing a Behavior Based Safety Program
- Experience with presenting and communicating information to groups of people at different levels throughout organization
- Adapts to fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Motivated self-starter
- Professional Safety Certifications (ASP, CSP, OSHA 501) are strongly desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in a manufacturing environment
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to: talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, grasp, pick, lift, stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions. The employee must frequently lift and /or move 50 pounds. The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operate production machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach
- This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
- Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
