Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The most important qualifications the right individual will possess are a strong work ethic, willingness to learn and grow, and physical strength and stamina. Producing a high-quality product, consistently and on time is essential. This is a manual labor position- you will be lifting heavy metal parts and loading them into an operating furnace, which means exposure to very hot temperatures. You will also be on your feet for most of the day. You must be able to communicate clearly and in a respectful manner with co-workers and managers, and value working as a team.
Also, you must be:
· Hard-working and dependable
· Organized and detail-oriented
· Able to report to work on-time everyday
· Flexible and ready to do whatever needs to get done, in your department or in another area if necessary
· Competent in reading, writing and math
· Must pass a drug screening, physical examination and background check
Educational/Technical Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; previous industrial work experience is preferred but not required. Forklift experience is a plus. You must have a valid ID and either your Social Security card or birth certificate.
Job Duties:
1. Works for and under the direct supervision of a FO, Upgraders 1, 2, 3, 4 or the lead furnace operator
a) Reports to his supervisor/trainer prior to the start of the shift
b) Loads furnaces the exact way as instructed to do so. Parts will vary in weight from 2 to 40 pounds each
c) Rakes parts from the discharge end of the draw and levels out the tub.
d) Observes:
1. The Quench conveyor and Draw belt for movement
2. For pile-ups
3. For jammed up parts
4. For parts that have fallen off the belt
5. Everything in the workplace
e) Notify your supervisor:
1. Of anything you think is unusual or not correct
2. Before you leave the furnace line for any reason
3. If injured on the job
4. If you observe any violations of work rules
5. If you observe any damage to the plant
6. If you observe any unsafe practices
7. Of any maintenance requirements
f) Asks questions no matter how small
g) Maintains a clean and orderly work area
3. The trainee does not:
a) Pick up parts off the floor around the furnace
b) Operate a fork truck without supervision
c) Leave the work station until properly relieved (May have to work overtime unexpectedly)
d) Stack parts above the guard edge
4. The trainee will be assigned to various other assignments to include but are not limited to:
a) Sweeping/cleaning the plant
b) Cleaning quench tanks
c) Stacking track shoes
d) Painting
e) Assisting Maintenance personnel
5. Views the video "Heat Treating You Can Depend On It"
6. Sorts parts when needed.
7. Stacks parts when needed.
8. And all other related duties.
Interaction:
An upgrader trainee will observe all around him/her, working closely with the shift manager, all management and co-workers. Transfer of information from shift to shift is critical so co-worker has the knowledge of work in process.
