Fourier is working on making on-site Hydrogen universally accessible. Our breakthrough architecture enables highly modular and fully automated electrolyzers that scale to any size and optimize efficiency at all loads. We are on a mission to transition the global energy landscape towards a purely sustainable and emission free future.
We are looking for an engineer to perform the mechanical design, specify the manufacturing processes, and define validation tests and build test equipment for hydrogen electrolyzer stacks. You will work closely with the electrochemists who have responsibility for the MEA. You will have overall responsibility for the design of the gasketing, clamping, and multiphase flow field and thermal design. You will manage the supply chain chain for the mechanical integration You will manage resources for assembly as well as working with our internal staff to aid in the design, assembly, testing, and optimization of our system. Fourier engineers work in a hands-on, collaborative environment to solve problems and push progress forward. Qualified candidates should have prior hands-on experience building and testing PEM electrolyzers and/or fuel cells.
Overall ownership of mechanical stack design, management and integration of components designed by other Fourier engineers
Perform two phase flow analysis to design the flow field components
Analyze the heat transfer from the system.
Design the clamping and gasketing system to provide reliable operation over many stop start cycles
Be the domain expert for mechanical stack materials.
Provide expertise in metal coating including spraying, plating, sputtering, and evaporation
Identify primary and secondary sources for all components; define OQC (outgoing quality control) for vendors and establish Certificates of Compliance (CoC’s)where required
Identification of fabrication process and design of tooling
Creation of test stands for evaluation of the performance and reliability of the system and its components
Required:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Materials Science or related degree/experience + 4 years industrial experience
Hands on experience with fabrication and testing of PEM based devices or similar technology
Portfolio should include examples of projects involving medium scale manufacturing and equipment test stands
Ability to perform cost models and skilled at design for cost down.
Preferred:
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D) in relevant field
Experience with metal coating processes such as sputter, evaporation, spray, or plating
Expertise with manufacturing processes: conventional machining + etch + additive
Manufacturing experience with sealing of hygroscopic materials with compression-set
Fully paid Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
401k
Diverse and inclusive work environment
Paid sick days and vacation
Compensation Range: $140K - $210K
