Job Title – Electrical Designer
Job Description:
Vektor Engineering & Consulting Services, Inc. is looking for an Electrical Designer to join our team. As an Electrical Designer, you will be working as part of close nit Project Teams consisting of Engineers, Designers, Project Managers and Coordinators, and BIM Technicians. We are looking for applicants who are punctual, organized, self-motivated, detail oriented, professional, willing to help expand Vektor, and are a good match with the staff and company culture. Currently we are looking for someone who is flexible in their availability to start off part-time to get a feel for the company and culture for approximately 3 months, and after a mutual review we will potentially hire for full-time.

We participate on projects in various sectors including, but not limited to: Light Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Institutional, Educational, and Health; and perform Engineering Services that are listed as part of our Brochure on our website.

Responsibilities:
- Work in a multidisciplinary Design Team environment to develop Construction Documents that consist of Construction Drawings and Specifications.
- Each project is unique and poses its own challenges. Typically an Electrical Designer works with other Electrical Designers under the supervision of an Electrical Engineer to complete the following tasks:
1. Site survey and analysis - review of photographs, as-built drawings, cut sheets, and site visits.
2. Create digital or hand drafted mark-ups and sketches for BIM Technicians.
3. Code analysis and research such as NEC, CEC, and Utility Design Standards.
4. Equipment and materials selection and specification.
5. Electrical plan design for power, lighting, fire alarm, communications, etc.
6. Load analysis and calculations.
7. Arc-flash analysis and calculations.
8. Panel schedules for switchboards, distribution, and branch circuit panels.
9. Single line diagrams.
10. Energy Compliance Design Certificates and commissioning assistance.
11. Coordinate with Architects, Structural, Civil and Mechanical Engineers.
12. Quality Assurance and Peer Review.
- Knowledge of drafting and mark-up practices and standards.
- Create AutoCAD drawings in 2018 format or newer. Current active version of AutoCAD our company uses is AutoCAD 2020.
- Exercise good verbal and written technical communication.
- Participate in company meetings and client outreach.
- Interface with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, utility representatives and commissioners, or other entities to discuss design as required for project success.
- Participate in the creation of Cost Estimates, Requests for Proposals, and other bid documents and other marketing materials.
- Track billable and nonbillable time.
Desired Skills/Requirements/Traits:
- Legally able to work in the United States.
- At least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university with at least 1 year of experience in a comparable job or in a related position.
- Working towards licensure as Engineer-In-Training or as a Professional Engineer.
- Experience with California and local city Codes and Regulation, and general understanding of flow of construction projects from conception to occupancy; field experience is a plus.
- Experience with applying NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and other applicable codes to Electrical Design and Engineering that are adopted and are used nationally.
- Experience with creating Arc Flash labels using ETAP.
- Ability to create AutoCAD drawings; and able to navigate a drawings folder architecture to manage CAD resources, such as common external reference drawings, PDFs, images, etc.
- Experience DraftSight and Revit. We sometimes use these programs to manage 3D models.
- Experience with Google Workspace, Adobe PDF, Monday.com, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work with and understand mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, fractions, percentages, and ratios. And, most importantly, be able to apply them to practical situations during Electrical Design.
- Ability to interpret and follow variety of complex instructions and standards in various forms.
- Ability to work well in a team environment. Mutual respect, tolerance, and coexistence.
- Strives to exceed the basic expectations.
- Self-starter and self-motivated.
- Knowledgeable of PG&E, SMUD, and or other utility providers design standards, requirements, and process.
- Understand S.M.A.R.T. goals and how to stay committed to a timeline.
Recommended:
- Knowledge of the Windows operating system and file structure, for example how to map a network drive, or how to use OpenVPN to connect remotely.
- Experience with Google Meet, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual meeting software suites.
