Performs full registration for rehab service patients consistent with current Registration Department standards; conducts interviews with patients on the telephone and in person to gather demographic, financial and guarantor information and enters into the hospital information system; contributes to the financial effectiveness of the hospital by obtaining and scanning insurance cards; secures patient and guarantor signatures; processes admission materials; obtains pre-admission information from patients and physician offices and obtains required signatures; verifies authorized treatments on Medicare patients using the Passport system; accepts and processes payments per Patient Financial Services policy. Performs various clerical duties to assist with department administration (e.g. answers telephone and responds to routine inquiries; greets and directs patients and public); schedules patients for treatment; gathers and verifies information necessary to prepare, organize and maintain patient charts, records and other reports for department (e.g. statistical data, departmental daily charge verification, certification logs, etc.); submits and/or distributes information according to established procedure; demonstrates ability work flexible schedule to meet department coverage. Completes routine administrative tasks to assist department Director (e.g. composes routine correspondence for signature; schedules, arranges, and coordinates meetings and conferences, records meeting minutes, prepares and distributes meeting materials; assists department Director in maintaining department policies and procedures; orders and distributes department office supplies as needed, etc); prepares and maintains various financial, statistical, operational, and/or personnel records and reports; researches, compiles and interprets data for report preparation. Communicates needs to Director; maintains appropriate verbal, written and telephone communications; ensures all interactions are conducted in a professional manner; demonstrates philosophy of team concept; participates in department projects, attends committees as assigned and attends monthly staff meetings; greets and directs customers; ensures customers are made to feel welcome and comfortable. Communicates patient arrivals in a timely manner according to department policy and procedures; ensures patient flow to reduce wait times, provide a positive customer experience, and maximize clinical efficiency; maintains wait time standards as appropriate.
Requirements
High school diploma; competency by education or training in office methods and practices; medical terminology; computer software/database management skills; three (3) years of clerical or secretarial experience.
