Subrogation Adjuster Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
With minimal supervision handles coordination of investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of subrogation claims in accordance with applicable statue, court systems, and Chesapeake Employers guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages routine to moderate claims with an occasional complex investigation including, liability and damages. Manages all aspects of investigative activity on assigned claims. Determines proper course through recovery, settlement, or litigation strategies. Effectively manages subrogation related expenses.
- Determines the need for any special handling/vendor assignment of subrogation files
- Effectively manages core job responsibilities including but not limited to diary maintenance, hearing reviews, statute of limitations, new assignments, timely recoveries and posting of financials, closures
- Negotiates moderate to complex settlements applying technical knowledge and authorizes payment within the scope of authority, settling claims in the most effective manner and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements and receipts of recoveries to contribute to the reduced loss ratio
- Guides claims in the gathering of facts and considers all of facts of the claim prior to making a recommendation or decision.
- Guides claims in the appropriateness of IME’s, MSA’s and SIU referrals or their usage as it relates to the cost benefit analysis of the subrogation claim
- Provides direction to external lawyers with respect to investigation, recovery, settlement, discovery, and litigation strategies to include direct participation in medications, pre trials, arbitrations and settlement discussions.
- Sends demand packages and other materials to support and manage the subrogation claim
- Promptly and accurately process recovery financials
- Reviews all expense bills within appropriate timeframe, approve for payment, and maintain a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers by responding in an appropriate timeframe
- Provides regular feedback to the claims manager concerning process improvement opportunities or any training opportunities relative to adequacy of file investigation/development in advance of recovery efforts
- Provides accurate, courteous and timely information to all external and internal customers concerning subrogation status and other related inquires
- Serves as a technical resource within the department through mentoring and knowledge sharing to include providing training as needed
- Consults with manager on unusually complex claims
- Some travel for meetings, training, mediations, and trials may be required
- May perform additional duties as assigned

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 2-5 years of advanced technical workers compensation and tort specific expertise
- Insurance related professional designation is preferred (such as CSRP, AIC, CPCU)
- Strong interpersonal and superior communication skill, including verbal and professional writing
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgement to achieve superior recovery results
- Demonstrated developed claims negotiation and settlement process
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments/tasks
- Knowledge in the claim adjustment function including civil theories of liability
- Knowledge of state and federal court systems and the rules of civil procedure for each
- Bilingual skills preferred
