Clausen Oysters is one of the largest producers of farmed Pacific Oysters in North America. The company is growing each year and is open year round.
POSITION DESCRIPT
Responsible for assisting with general farm operations including, but not limited to the planting, maintenance and harvest of the company's oyster beds. Will perform general grounds maintenance and upkeep and assist with various projects as needed. Crewmembers must be comfortable in wet conditions lifting heavy amounts on, sometimes, uneven ground. Oyster tubs are to be fully filled for pick up by another crew to be counted. A crewmember is responsible for the equipment assigned to them and be able to work day or night tides in all types of weather conditions. This means the crewmembers must wear appropriate protective clothing. Oyster crews are to report to their crew boss for hours, places, and transportation. Oyster crews are often assigned to other tasks such as shucking or breaking of the cluster oysters and must be open and available to work this position as well. This is not a 9-5 type of job as we work depending on the tide charts which can mean night time harvests and split shifts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Breaking cluster oysters
- Harvesting Oysters on the mud flats at low tide
- Be able to work on boats safely
- Demonstrate the ability to work safely and effectively in inclement weather and adverse conditions that are typically found on the tide beds and on the boats.
- Assist with farm organization and clean up as directed.
- Operate various farm equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, and farm boats.
- Complete paperwork, logs and maintain records as required.
- Provide back up support for other duties as needed, to include acting as a deckhand on the dredge boats, hanging net lines, and assisting with Oyster grading.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must complete safety orientation prior to working.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions, wet, cold, hot, dry.
- Must be able to work day and night as tides vary throughout the different seasons.
- Must be physically able to lift and handle sixty pounds.
- Must be able to speak and understand English.
- Must wear proper safety gear when necessary.
- Must work well with other crew members
- Must be able to swim.
- Must have own supply of rain gear, and head light.
- Must be capable of understanding and following instructions from the crew boss and being accountable to him/her for work. (Skipper)
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions at various times of the day and night.
- Time sheets are done with a program called T Sheets and you would be responsible to sign in and out on a tablet provided
- Must pick up any garbage found on or around the farm and never leave any of their own garbage lying around as we operate a restaurant in the summer
- Must maintain proper employee conduct including being aware and respectful of the time of day, noise level, and the homeowners that surround the property.
