The Meisel Laboratory at Brandeis University is seeking a passionate, creative and organized Research Technician to work at the interface of C. elegans genetics and mitochondrial biology. The research technician will work closely with the PI setting up the new lab from scratch and will use tools of genetics, metabolism, and biochemical physiology to systematically investigate mitochondria — key organelles in our body that are crucial for energy metabolism and linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and normal aging. This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic and cutting-edge research team at the ground level with ample opportunity for co-authorship on important publications.
Job Description:
Performs research on scientific projects relating to mitochondrial biology, by using techniques in genetics and biochemistry. Estimated time: 50%
Manages the laboratory by ordering reagents, freezing strains, and making common stock solutions. Estimated time: 40%
Participates in lab meetings where experiments are planned and results discussed. Estimated time: 10%
Job Requirements:
AS/equivalent is required; BS or BA in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field preferred.
1-3 years of relevant experience required.
Competence in basic molecular biology.
Common techniques performed in the lab include: PCR, Western Blot, molecular cloning.
Excellent organization and ability to work in a team setting
