Olivet Academy is a Christian private school, K – 12th Grade located in Amenia, NY. We are looking for teachers with experience in teaching Science. Teachers are expected to support and enforce the school’s statement of faith, mission, core values, philosophy, policies, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teachers will create engaging lesson plans designed to move students towards meeting proficient performance of the high priority standards
- Teachers will provide clear information (through periodic course syllabus) to students and parents regarding class objectives, weekly assignments, homework requirements, grading rubrics, and grading scale.
- Teachers are expected to employ a wide variety of teaching methods designed to create opportunities for deep understanding and differentiated instruction for all levels of ability within a class, including serving students identified with special needs.
- Teachers will guide students in their social emotional development with a focus on developing self-management, making good choices, and setting well-defined classroom and school wide expectations
- Teachers will take responsibility for being a spiritual role model and leader for students
- Teachers will obey Christ by maintaining a demeanor of Christian ethics and integrity.
Specific Duties of the Teacher include:
- Collaboratively developing the program design of the classroom instruction
- Managing the classroom environment
- Communicating with families regarding student progress and development
- Contributing to a collaborative professional environment in which community members are treated with the highest levels of respect
- Contributing to a school culture in which faculty are empowered in school wide decision making in the areas of their professional expertise
Candidate Requirements:
- B.A./B.S. degree or an equivalent degree or educational qualification from an accredited college or university
- Full-time or Part-time teaching experience in K-9 public or independent schools beyond student teaching
- Strong skills sets in mathematics and science and meeting the social and emotional needs of children
- Strong communication abilities including speaking and writing
- Wide-ranging intellectual and educational interests and ability to commit to integrated curriculum
Specific Qualifications:
- Actively support school's Statement of Faith
- Two recommendation letters (One letter from your pastor is preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or an institution recognized by ACSI preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience - Confidence in managing student behavior
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting
The teachers (“Teacher”) are the educational facilitators of Olivet Academy. Working under the direction of the Principal of Olivet, the teacher is responsible for developing and implementing the curriculum and culture of the elementary school. She/he reports directly to the Principal who evaluates the effectiveness of the teacher’s work. The teacher oversees the day-to-day activities of the classroom and is the first point of contact for students and parents. The Teacher, in consultation with the Principal, is responsible for the curriculum and pedagogical design in the elementary school. The ideal candidate will be fully dedicated to the mission of Olivet, and committed to keeping the academic and personal success of our students as a core focus.
