Job Overview:
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 35 hours per week from 9am to 5pm or 10am to 6pm
- Type: Temporary, through the end of August
- Location: Hybrid 3 days onsite in the Lower East Side and 2 days remote
- Pay Type: $23 an hour, non-exempt
Program Overview:
The purpose of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is to provide New York City youth with summer employment and educational experiences that build on their individual strengths and incorporate youth development principles. These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and providing positive adult role models.
The goals and objectives of SYEP are:
- To provide a valuable work experience at job sites that are safe and well supervised
- To assist youth in identifying their career interests through exposure to different industries, occupations, educational pathways, and the requirements for success in each of them
- To enable youth to acquire positive work habits and develop employment-related skills
- To facilitate the long-term employment and self-sufficiency of youth
- To enable youth to develop a greater understanding of higher education and career options available to them
- To enable youth to develop financial literacy and other competencies that will prepare them to succeed in their transition to adulthood
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; High School Diploma/GED required
- Proficient in Zoom and Google Classrooms
- Demonstrated experience facilitating dynamic educational workshops for a diverse group of young adult learners
- Must be computer literate and comfortable with technology (i.e. Zoom, Google Suite, Google Meet, Google Drive); the ability to incorporate photography/videography or other media tools into learning a plus.
- At least one year experience developing, enhancing, and engaging an informative curriculum for young adult learners; experience with work readiness curriculum desired.
- Strong interest in community service and civic engagement is a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with a diverse population
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Creative, professional, and an excellent sense of humor
- Passion for youth and community development
Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead professional development workshops and project-based learning activities with youth aged 14-15 (such as program orientations, work readiness, financial literacy, teamwork and conflict resolution, time management, education and career exploration)
- Provide informed educational, career exploration, and job readiness knowledge to support the individual needs of the participants
- Provide a safe and engaging learning environment for all SYEP participants
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with SYEP participants
- Administrative duties such as data entry, report generation, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
