Job Brief
At Twelve, we are doing work that has not been done before, and a large portion of our laboratory and process equipment is designed and built by us for our own use. As devices and machines move from initial launch to ongoing operation, preventative and reactive maintenance systems must be built.
The Sustaining Engineering Manager will work with equipment designers, builders, vendors, and operators, to document maintenance needs and build structures that minimize downtime and ensure quality output from our various hardware. This work will include a wide array of issues on a wide range of equipment. The administrative ability to document these issues and develop solutions for them is critical, as is the wide range of mechanical experience and aptitude to properly diagnose and correct them. The Sustaining Engineering Manager will also hire and manage a small team to meet Twelve’s maintenance needs.
Building a sustaining engineering function, in close contact with the first users of the equipment and the engineers who designed and built the equipment, is a rare chance to own a system in its entirety. If solving complex problems and fixing things is your idea of a good time, you should come see the cool stuff we are working on. You won’t be following the service manual, you’ll be writing it!
What you will do
Solve and document novel maintenance issues, and then implement preventative changes into the PM program
Learn the details and specifications of a diverse set of custom hardware
Build and manage a small team to perform maintenance work on many different kinds of devices at multiple sites
Collect issue information and communicate it to help design engineers conceive of improvements where needed
Work with design engineers to anticipate maintenance needs of new equipment that is being released for use
Shape the maintenance strategy for our internally produced equipment
Serve as the main point of contact for escalated maintenance issues
Who you are
Substantial experience maintaining and diagnosing a variety of mechanical and electromechanical devices
Comfortable navigating digital record-keeping and ability to work scheduling systems
People management and task scheduling experience
Highly developed time management skills
Strong communicator who is effective in written and verbal form with people of a variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds
You are familiar with (or expert) in several of the following areas:
Pumps, Pressurized gasses, Feedback control systems, Electrolyzers or fuel cells, RTDs and Thermocouples, Conductivity and pH measurement, Chemical and/or electrical safety, Digital control systems, Presses, PID controllers, Bioreactors, Laboratory equipment, Hoists, Material handling, Ultrasonic spray systems, CNC positioning systems, Analog electronics, Equipment troubleshooting

United States Wage Range: $144,000 - $180,000 USD
Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidate's diverse sets of skill levels.
