Broad Function
The Estimating Director sets policies and procedures focused on continually improving the bid process to create the greatest competitive advantage possible while maintaining superior client satisfaction. The Estimating Director implements policies that ensure all bids are compliant with legal policies and estimating data is shared cross-functionally with Project Controls, Sales, HSEQ, and Operations.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the vision, development and growth of the estimating department and personnel
- Create and manage departmental budget
- Develop and implement strategic plan for Estimating across operations
- Design and implement a centralized Estimating process and pricing strategy which supports winning sales strategies.
- Develop and implement estimating policies, procedures, and systems to ensure all bids are compliant with Risk Management and Legal policies, terms, and conditions
- Incorporate market based best practices in estimating job/project costs
- Work closely with the business unit leaders as partners to meet or exceed agreed upon expectations for the estimating group
- Contribute on strategies to attract new clients by innovating and overseeing the Estimating process for the business
- Establish negotiation strategies to obtain the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery for the company
- Build and maintain positive, long-lasting relationships with customers and vendors
- Act as advisor to Operations Leadership regarding estimating processes, market conditions and trends, and legal requirements
- Monitor competitors, market conditions and product development
- Participate/support in the preparation of pitches and presentations to potential new clients
- Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating, and collaborates with Project Controls to ensure historical data is utilized and available across all platforms
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to develop high performing team
- Proficient in estimating and scheduling programs such as MIKE, 3E, P6, etc.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Science, Engineering, or related technical field, preferred
- 10+ years’ experience progressively leading estimating activities
- Craft knowledge in scaffolding, insulation, fireproofing and painting and blasting, preferred
- Previous experience in Industrial and Commercial Insulation, Scaffolding, Coatings & Fireproofing preferred
