We are looking for an innovative electrical engineer to design, develop and construct a range of projects supporting the National Aerospace System of the Federal Aviation Administration. This is for our Anchorage, Alaska office.

Duties:
Serve in one of several typical electrical engineer roles: Resident Engineer (90% travel), Design Engineer(25% travel), hybrid roles (between 25-90%). Entry level engineers must be open to high levels of travel as familiarity with the flow of onsite construction is needed before performing design.
Develop engineering designs and site adaptation of standard engineering designs. Conducts site surveys for facilities and systems, as well as, develops and coordinates project scope, cost estimates, facility and NAS risk mitigation, project schedules, resource requirements, and project closeout for assigned projects.
Conducts engineering analysis and studies for establishment, sustainment and maintenance projects. Estimates, manages, and accounts for funding of assigned projects. Reviews and approves contractor submittals. Interfaces with Logistics on contract awards, contract modifications and materials acquisitions.
Performs the full range of construction and/or installation activities including the conduct of daily operations, overall schedule reviews, drawing approvals, project coordination, safety and environmental requirements, and interfacing with Logistics on contract awards, contract modifications and material acquisitions. Performs the full range of Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) duties for implementation construction and installation activities. Accountable for ensuring conformance with established FAA regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments and plans the implementation of projects/programs under limited direction of a manager, a project/program manager, or more experienced engineer. Applies experience and advanced knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to accomplish assigned design and installation of navigation and landing aid projects such as instrument landing systems and approach lighting systems. Understands how his/her technical area interacts with other disciplines, and considers the interactions and impacts of all disciplines on projects. Defines, plans, and organizes assigned resources to accomplish organizational objectives.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with creating an engineering plan. They should have experience with AutoCAD and be able to utilize strong design skills in order to create engineering drawings. By utilizing strong organizational and communication skills, this candidate will also have the ability to execute a project based on the criteria outlined.
Typical Electrical Engineering Projects
- Power System Upgrades (replacing outdated engine generators, facility UPS & DC bus systems, obsolete power panels)
- Electrical Design Support (power system for an Airport Traffic Control Tower, from simple radial systems to a redundant path CPDS Type system)
- Security (fences, cameras, access systems, associated conduit, CCTV, guard buildings)
- Cable Installation (on-airport trenching and laying cable/duct banks)
- Fire Life Safety (upgrading fire alarm systems or emergency egress pathways in Airport Traffic Control Towers; working with other fire protection engineers)
- Mechanical Design Support (HVAC system for an Airport Traffic Control Tower, working with other mechanical engineers)
- Electronics Design Support (work with FAA electronics engineer to define requirements and implement regarding grounding, power, cable tray, conduit and lighting)
- Grounding Upgrades (interior grounding systems as well as exterior lightning protection systems based on specific FAA Orders)
- Lighting upgrades (replacing lights in the TRACON/ATCT area, or upgrading old fixtures, implementing new lighting technology)
- Electrical modernization support (support other trades in upgrading facility systems (electronics, HVAC, elevator, etc), adding power panels to existing power system)
- Reviewing/Applying short circuit coordination study/arc flash study (Plot trip characteristics of in line breakers and ensure coordination, evaluate arc flash ratings, applying breaker settings to the field)
- Lockout/Tagout (implementing and/or verifying written lockout/tagout procedures)
- HPSB/LEED (applying these principles as much as possible, ensuring principles are followed through during construction)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- For an office engineer position, which is 30% travel or less: Minimum 3 years of civil engineering experience related to site design, land development and land use permitting
- For an entry level engineer position. No civil experience required, but must be open to 90% travel, especially in the summer construction season
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication skills and design skills
- Experience with the following software
- SKM Arc Flash Analysis
- AutoCAD drafting
- DranView - energy and power analysis
- Kohler Power Solutions - engine generator sizing
- CWP Primavera - scheduling and project management
