Role Overview:
As a Collector you will focus on engaging with our members to assist them in maintaining or regaining a positive standing with the credit union. While collecting debts and mitigating losses is considered the primary directive of the department, the goal is to do so in a manner which is empathetic and ideally enables us to assist the members with products or services in future times of need.
Essential Functions & Basic Duties:
- Perform sound, compliant, and diligent collection practices, while providing courteous and respectful treatment to members.
- Perform proactive and ongoing member outreach through various channels. Engage with members in an effort to identify the cause for default and develop a plan to bring the member back to good standing.
- Process payments from members and third-party vendors.
- Research and help resolve any matters which could result in a direct or indirect loss to the credit union.
- Accurately research and respond to disputes regarding credit reporting, monies owed, and other matters.
- Ensure the credit union’s collateral is secured in various situations; confirming lien status, verifying adequate insurance coverage, etc.
- Maintain ample and accurate notes on all collection related activities, actions, and proceedings.
- Ensure the proper safeguarding of pertinent member data and privacy across all channels.
- Provide timely and accurate reporting to senior management on delinquent loans, negative shares, and other products, services, or activities.
- Provide support to Senior Manager and/or other departments as requested. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. Maintain effective working relationships with various departments.
Job Requirements:
- Flexibility and willingness to work fluid schedule based on business needs (i.e.: evenings & weekends)
- 2+ years of customer service or sales experience; banking experience preferred.
- 2+ years of collection experience in banking or credit union; covering various products and credit types.
- Previous success in a fast paced and goal driven environment.
- Excellent technical skills & computer proficiency (i.e., Microsoft 365); ability to learn new software as required
- Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written communications, active listening, positive attitude).
- Impeccable attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Demonstrate ability to provide solutions for complex customer related issues.
- High energy; proven ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.50 - $22.50 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
