Job Summary:
The Ultrasound Technologist will work in a collaborative environment to provide superior patient care. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of ultrasound images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound area.

Clinical Duties
- Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff in a courteous, helpful, professional, and ethical manner.
- Perform ultrasounds and general radiological procedures according to practice standards:
- Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
- Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging based on accepted ultrasound standard of practice and institutional imaging protocols.
- Observe patient while in the ultrasound area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
- Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
- Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
- Set up and assist with sonographic core biopsies, FNAs, and hysterosonograms/saline-infused sonograms.
- Independently perform a wide range of sonographic examinations on adult and pediatric patients: abdominal, soft tissue, gynecological, renal, thyroid, scrotal, vascular, and musculoskeletal exams.
- Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
- Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
- Take initiative to resolve patient safety and patient experience concerns within the scope of practice/training/education.
- Create an environment of safety by utilizing practice standards.
- Ensure the overall condition of the treatment room is clean and safe according to practice standards. Escalate any issues as appropriate. Ensure inventory and adequate supply of personal protective equipment and other hygiene products in the patient treatment area. Notify management when supplies are low and need restocking.
- Address any service calls and follow up as required or as directed, based on operational need.
- Other duties as assigned within professional scope of practice/training/education.
Administrative Duties
- Contribute ideas for improving practice workflows to team members, providers, and management.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA requirements at all times.
- Keep current on all organizational, practice, and patient privacy policies (e.g., infection control, HIPAA) and required trainings. Maintain technical competency through continued education as required by accrediting and licensing bodies.
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment by following all OSHA, EH&S, and public safety policies and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
- NYS License, ARDMS certified.
- Current BLS required.
- Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population, demonstrating tact, respect, and empathy.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
- Must be an engaged team member, demonstrating collaboration, inclusion, reliability, and adaptability to new and changing situations.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
- Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
- Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
