Tax Accounting Manager:

Our client is a mid-sized, boutique, public accounting firm that’s well-established, privately-owned, and serving over 500 clients across the greater Houston area, Texas, as well as nationally. They’ve built their business over the last 30 years, serving some of the largest non-profit organizations in Texas. With a reputation as a national leader in non-profit audit and tax accounting, their partners teach at numerous universities, conferences, and events across the country, providing technical expertise. Their tax and audit teams exclusively serve tax-exempt organizations, such as churches, conservancies, healthcare organizations, performing arts, museums and zoos, private foundations, private schools and social service organizations.
As their business continues to grow naturally year-over-year, they’re seeking additional, experienced tax professionals to work closely to manage, renew, and oversee the preparation of Form 990 and 990T returns of their clients. Having one of the lowest management turnover rates that we’ve ever seen, our client invests heavily in their staff’s ability to balance work and life. Duties and Responsibilities:
An ideal candidate has five or more years of experience serving high net worth individuals, trusts, or business clients. Position(s) with tax-exempt organization(s) is desirable, but is not essential. Tax research capabilities, communication skills, understanding of accounting, and financial planning concepts, ability to master tax rules applicable to nonprofits, and effective due-date management abilities are required.
- Review and/or prepare federal and state returns for exempt organizations.
- Build new and existing client relationships and demonstrate knowledge of client’s affairs.
- Assist clients with challenging tax compliance issues.
- Prepare internal memoranda, written correspondence/guidance, and other documents for distribution to clients.
- Manage multiple clients, budgets and production goals.
- Provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients in key tax-exempt areas.
- Excellent communication, documentation and analytical skills, and ability to work both independently and on a team.
- Plan and schedule engagements with clients and firm resources to consistently meet deadlines.
- Perform detailed and timely reviews of tax workpapers and provision calculations completed by associates.
- Ability to mentor and develop staff.
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience. Full compensation and benefits are competitive with public accounting salaries regionally.
Hours Required: 40 hours plus 5% OT (Average of 2-3 hours per week).

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance
- Five or more years of tax experience serving high net worth individuals, trusts, or business clients
- Positions with tax exempt organizations is desirable, but is not essential.
- Tax research capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of GAAP, accounting and financial planning concepts
- Ability to master tax rules applicable to nonprofits
- Effective time management skills for meeting due dates
- Experience mentoring and supervising staff
- Proficiency in use computers and computer accounting software programs
