Key Responsibilities:
Develops a set of standards for infrastructure design, technical functionality, and network-based security - 34%
- Makes recommendations regarding departmental needs, requirements, and capacity utilization for impending modifications.
- Presents solutions and options to stakeholders including cost, staffing and support estimates.
- Authors, reviews, evaluates and participates in the Request for Proposal process and/or the vendor and technology selection process in order to identify network and voice solutions that adhere to Brandeis University and industry standards.
- Manages the implementation of selected solutions.
- Supervises staff, consultants, and contractors on network and voice related projects.
- Ensures successful project deployment.
- Manages contractual commitments, scope of work, budget and the timelines of network and voice related projects.
- Manages, maintains and supports a complex, redundant, fault tolerant data network and voice architecture connecting all university facilities via LAN and WAN links.
- Designs, manages, and maintains IP address documentation and pool including systems to dynamically allocate addressing.
Manages the daily operations of network and voice infrastructure - 33%
- Manages the daily operation of network and voice hardware, switches, routers, specialized systems, and network and voice components.
- Monitors traffic, performance and security.
- Manages network security, user access and control.
- Oversees the install, upgrade and modification of configurations, firmware and software to network and voice infrastructure.
- Monitors the network components via network management software as well as daily error logs and responds appropriately.
- Responsible for equipment replacement via maintenance contracts.
- Responsible for maintaining high levels of LAN/WAN connectivity to provide 99.99% uptime.
- Provides change management for all network and voice infrastructure.
- Works with all operating departments to design and/or create new network and voice presences.
Manages and coordinates activities of the Network staff - 33%
- Reviews unit's workload, schedules, personnel assignments, status of on going work, projects, and available personnel for work assignment in order to plan unit activities.
- Assigns specific duties and special projects to personnel considering individual knowledge and experience.
- Reviews reports, documents, and other records prepared by personnel for clarity, completeness, accuracy, and conformance with university policies and procedures.
- Coordinates unit work activities with other groups and departments to prevent delays in actions required or to improve services.
- Approves leave requests, evaluates personnel performance, and initiates disciplinary action as required.
Requirements:
- B.A./B.S. required.
- 5-8 years with 3-5 years of management experience.
- Must be able to manage large and small scale projects including documenting and leading the project team.
- Must be able to analyze and correct problems with the wired and wireless, telephony, and CATV networks as well as engineer changes to the network.
- Must have advanced knowledge of internet routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, RIP) and switching protocols, Cisco and Aruba network equipment and software, multicast, TCP/IP, wireless, network analysis, packet tracing/sniffing and other networking skills.
- Must be able to work with systems administrators and applications developers to design and troubleshoot new systems and resolve problems.
- Must be able to take projects from inception through completion; coordinating schedules and assignments with all involved parties.
- Must design and document processes used in providing service to the campus community.
- Must possess thorough working knowledge of computers, network hardware, test equipment and network software used in a multi-protocol campus network environment.
- Must serve as an operational leader within the group, creating documentation and standards, and ensuring that these processes are adhered to.
- Must interface with the campus Help Desk to establish guidelines on how work should be passed between the groups.
