JOB DESCRIPTION – Special Education Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Aide)
This job reports to directly to the Principal of THRIVE Christian Academy, DeKalb County School District.
Statement
The position of Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Aide) is a classified position limited to the
annual student attendance days plus any professional development (training) days
as assigned by the direct supervisor or school administration. The Paraprofessional is
to assist in the learning process in assigned areas of study, to perform a variety of
clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel and perform related work as
required.
Functions
- Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
- Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
- Assists instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
- Work with students individually or in small groups, as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Provide input in selecting activities appropriate to the abilities, needs, and interests of the students;
- Assist in maintaining the classroom in a functional, attractive, and orderly environment (i.e. bulletin board, displays, posters, etc.)
- Assist the teacher in complying with I.E.P. requirements and objectives
- Re-enforce behavioral expectations as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Manage discipline problems in accordance with administrative regulations, school board policies, and legal requirements.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
- Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
- Meet with parents to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.

Job Requirements & Minimum Qualifications
- Preferably possess either sixty (60) hours of college course credit OR have successfully passed the Para Processional Praxis assessment.
- The ability to work and interact with all other school personnel and students in a cooperative, collaborative and courteous manner.
- The ability to safely, accurately and efficiently follow verbal and written instructions.
- The ability to understand, demonstrate knowledge of, and follow all District policies, rules and procedures pertinent to the assigned position and duties.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $1,500.00 - $2,500.00 per month
Expected hours: 40 per week
