Role Description
As a Class A Regional Driver for Red Baron Transportation, you will transport goods across multiple states within a designated region. This role involves operating a Class A commercial vehicle, specifically Freightliner or International Sleeper Automatic trucks, performing pre-trip inspections, securing cargo, and maintaining accurate logs. You will communicate with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers while adhering to DOT regulations and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class A CDL truck (tractor-trailer combinations) to deliver goods over regional routes, adhering to designated schedules and company dispatch instructions.
- Perform pre-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle to identify and report any mechanical issues.
- Securely load and unload cargo using appropriate methods to prevent damage, possibly involving forklifts or other material handling equipment.
- Maintain accurate logs and paperwork related to deliveries, including hours worked, mileage, stops, and inspections.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers regarding deliveries.
- Navigate using maps, GPS systems, and company routing guides to ensure efficient travel across state lines.
- Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, federal hours-of-service limitations, and company safety protocols.
- Conduct preventative maintenance checks on the vehicle throughout the trip.
- Manage travel expenses and maintain records of fuel purchases, tolls, and other road costs.
- May stay overnight in company-designated terminals or approved motels during extended trips.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating a Class A truck in a regional or long-haul environment (experience with specific industries or cargo types is a plus).
- Excellent understanding of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques, along with strong knowledge of DOT regulations.
- Strong map reading and navigational skills, with the ability to adapt to changes in traffic, road conditions, and weather across varying regions.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet delivery deadlines while adhering to hours-of-service limitations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers.
- Physical stamina to perform duties, which may include lifting, climbing, prolonged periods of sitting, and maneuvering in inclement weather conditions.
- Driver will need PPE at shippers and receivers.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Clean MVR and background, valid Medical Card.
- Must be registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
