Job Overview
The multi-faceted position of Auditor and Strike Assistance Representative is responsible for supporting the Auditing and Strike Assistance Department’s mission to ensure and uphold the values, policies, and procedures of the International Union as recognized by the UAW Constitution. It is this department’s responsibility to provide assistance and service to all sectors of the UAW membership.
Through education, guidance, and compliance auditing, our overall objective is to maintain adherence to the financial policies and procedures of this great institution; providing support to the striking membership as they demand a better future for themselves and their families in today’s working America.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform audits of local unions, and miscellaneous entities that fall under the guidance and supervision of the International Union.
- Assist local unions to remain in compliance with Federal, State and Local guidelines including but not limited to payroll taxes, annual government reporting, and tax exemption status.
- Ensure compliance with established internal control procedures by examining receipts, reports, operating practices, and documentation.
- Conduct education and training of local union officers regarding processes and financial policies and procedures of the International Union through one on one, classroom and conference style trainings.
- Prepare and evaluate training content for financial training.
- Provide strike assistance support to members through registration, training, and the strike process.
- Verify local union finances and respond to requests in a timely manner
- Publication updates of training materials
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
Time management and planning are essential to the success in this position. It requires someone who is detail-oriented and can maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the financial procedures of the local union under the guidelines of the International Union.
- Ability to create and deliver effective presentations to varying crowd sizes.
- Ability to communicate detailed and complicated information in an easy-to-understand way, both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Forms).
- Bookkeeping experience is required, with a preference for experience as a local union financial officer.
- Ability to travel nationwide and work a varying schedule to best service our members.

Salary and Benefits
We are hiring for multiple full-time, exempt positions to be based in either Detroit, Michigan or remotely (home-based) servicing one of our regions. The positions will require extensive, including overnight stays out of town, daily driving, evening, and weekend work. The UAW offers a starting salary of $111,760 with a 3-year progression to $124,178, along with best-in-class health, retirement, and paid time off benefits.
