The role:
Reporting to the Center Director, the Assistant Teacher will support the learning objectives of children and assist in creating and managing a variety of learning environments and activities that will provide opportunities for children to develop to their fullest potential. BAE’s Ed., teachers work as a team with fellow staff to promote the interests of the children and the school in general.
The successful candidate will be accountable for:
- Interacting and collaborating with teacher(s) to supervise children.
- Collaborating with teachers and helping in classrooms, helping with lesson plans
- Supporting centers state regulations for licensing and sanitation
- Review learning material with students, either individually or in small groups, to help reinforce lessons presented by lead teachers.
- Supervise students in class, during lunch hour, playtime, or recess, and at extraordinary events, like field trips.
- Aid in teaching appropriate behavior and social skills to students.
- Assist in enforcing school and classroom rules.
- Assist with record keeping, such as attendance records, student progress notes and grades.
- Help teachers prepare for lessons by assembling materials and equipment.
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of the classrooms and communal areas - trash removal and disposal from the classrooms and kitchens as necessary
- Provide personal aid and care as necessary to students, such as help with hygiene, eating or toileting, for example.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and education requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Interest in childcare and/or currently enrolled in Early Childhood Education related courses.
- 0-1 years of experience in a licensed childcare facility
- CPR & First Aid certification
- Mandated Reporter Training certificate (AB1207)
- Immunization records (MMR, Tdap, and flu)
- California fingerprint clearance
- Health Examination, including TB test
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Must have strong organizational skills and high motivation.
- Must have ability to relate well to parents, children, and staff.
- Must have flexibility to meet daily challenges of working in a childcare environment and to be available during varied work hours as needed.
The preferred candidate will:
- Have a passion for working with children and making a difference in their lives!
- Be a team-player who can manage a learning environment and can create fun activities/lessons that develop children.
- Will be organized and able to prepare activities based on children's ideas and interests, has worked with children and who can manage conflict.
- Be invested in the personal growth and development of children.
- Be an empathetic and motivational individual that can keep up with the children.
