Director of Catering and Events
JOB DESCRIPTION
Assist the Director of Sales with leading, training, mentoring, and supervising the resort’s catering sales and wedding planning team. Identify and cultivate food, beverage and ancillary revenues for the resort that are achieved from catering events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills essential to assisting the Director of Sales with leading the resort’s Catering Sales efforts
- Assist with the development, training and supervision of Catering Sales and Wedding Planning managers
- Provide positive and aggressive sales characteristics essential to capture maximum revenue potential for all opportunities
- Develop and implement strategic action plans to achieve the resort's financial catering revenue goals
- Work collaboratively with other resort department heads, operational departments, colleagues, and fellow team members to execute events
- Develop relationships with other local resort counterparts to capitalize on referral opportunities and drive incremental revenues.
- Specific focus on wedding sales; however, one must also possess the ability to penetrate and maintain specified local segments
- Increase positive response rate on post event surveys with the ability to capture repeat business.
- Strive to increase and steal market share from competitor resorts, hotels, and event facilities
- Effectively communicate with the Director of Sales to review opportunities that financially impact Resort’s revenue goals.
- Conduct site inspections and appropriate client entertainment on a weekly basis.
- Assure customer service needs are completely realized to a client’s satisfaction
- Interact with meeting planners, customers, Conference Services, sales staff, Catering, market affiliations and third party/lead generation companies.
REQUIREMENTS OF DIRECTOR OF CATERING POSITION INCLUDE:
- Minimum of 5 years of Catering Sales experience, with a strong emphasis and knowledge of wedding sales
- Thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, menu development, proper preparation and presentation of food and beverage items.
- Ability to create, coordinate and execute special themes, menus, unique proposals, and events.
- Proven history of soliciting, penetrating, and developing unique market segments
- Ability to create customized proposals using Word, Excel, Delphi, or other related technology programs.
- Ability to achieve and exceed personal and departmental revenue goals
- Strong negotiation, written, oral and presentation skills
- Ability to manage superiors, peers, and subordinates
- Ability to travel for sales calls including representation at regional tradeshows.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to use all forms of transportation
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to sit at computer for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift and carry fifty pounds
OTHER:
- Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which are established by the resort is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
- Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with resort rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
EDUCATION:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from college or any other combination of education training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Certification from any of the Hospitality related organizations beneficial
GROOMING
- All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available). Personal grooming and etiquette prerequisite.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 per year
