This role will support the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). The candidate will directly support the Budget Office, which leads EERE's budget planning, formulation, justification, and execution. The financial analyst will support the budget process, financial forecasting, business segment reporting, capital planning, competitive intelligence, and other finance initiatives. This position will play a key role in assisting the DOE team with strategic planning and tactical activities of the organization.
- Advise and assist the Director on strategic matters, strategies, and tools that enable EERE to capture its strategic vision and translate that into a complete and defensible budget.
- Support the development of corporate budget and management tools that enable EERE corporate and mission offices to collaborate effectively on budget development and justification
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop annual budgets and long-term financial strategies.
- Ensure budgeting and forecasting is aligned with business and strategic planning.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis to evaluate business performance, identify trends, and highlight areas for improvement.
- Support the development of reports, models, and other financial analytic tools to measure, forecast and analyze financial performance and enhance budget versus actual reporting.
- Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including dashboards, trends and other financial reports for business leaders.
- Assist with preparation of various management presentations to communicate strategies.
- Assist in the creation and review of various external reports and SOPs for system requirements.
- Analyze processing flows, integration of external system interfaces and internal subsystem modules, and recommend improvements to internal controls.
- Support new initiatives as needed.
- Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- 3+ years' experience delivering Federal financial ad budget management, which may include budget planning and/ or execution
- Knowledge of Federal financial management, including the federal budget cycle
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills
- Ability to operate autonomously in fast-paced environments with minimal oversight
- Possesses a high degree of initiative requiring minimal supervision
- Experience producing professional and accurate reports and documents
- Knowledge of the production, communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform via written, oral, and visual media.
- Knowledge of financial methods, procedures, and practices to assess the financial stability of those applying for or receiving Federal grants or agreements.
- High attention to detail identifying needs; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, customer focus

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and generate actionable insights
